A WELL OF TRUTH
THE BLESSING OF ABRAHAM – PART THREE

First things first – Thank you Father, thank you Jesus, thank you Holy Spirit for Resurrection Day! Because you live I (all of us in Christ Jesus) will live also.
Revelation 1:17-18 (KJV)
17 And when I saw him, I fell at his feet as dead. And he laid his right hand upon me, saying unto me, Fear not; I am the first and the last:
18 I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death.
John 14:1-4 (KJV)
1 Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.
2 In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.
3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.
4 And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know.
Enjoy this Resurrection Day knowing yours is at hand and we will forever be with the Lord and in His service. Glory be to God! Now to our study for today. Greetings dear and precious saints of God and welcome back to drawing from A Well of Truth. Today we will continue with part three of looking at the Blessing of Abraham. As we prepare to dive into our teaching, please take a moment and share this teaching as widely as possible by every means available to you. Thank you for sharing. Also, remember to be reading out loud. The featured picture is a well with lots of water and bucket full of water about to be drawn from that well. The water is the Word of God that gives life (zōē Strong’s Talking Greek & Hebrew Dictionary, life as God knows life) and cleanses. Let’s again start our study by going to these familiar Scriptures in the Apostle Pauls’ epistle to the saints at Galatia.
Galatians 3:13-14 (KJV)
13 Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:
14 That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.
Galatians 3:29 (KJV)
29 And if ye be Christ’s, then are ye Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.
The last two Sundays I spent quite a bit of time dealing with how we are redeemed from the curse. I pointed out that the original law of sin and death was done away with by Christ. We have reviewed Genesis 12:1-3 which is the start of the Abrahamic Covenant and the Blessing of Abraham referenced in our primary text above. We saw a need to separate from the system upon which he previously depended and to dependence upon God. We note partial steps of obedience from the time of God’s command to leave Ur of the Chaldees until we get to the 17th chapter of Genesis. What about us, total or partial obedience? In obedience God would make Abram significant, empower him to prosper, make him well-known, and a blessing to others (empowering others to prosper). Then we saw that there was a reward for those who blessed Abram but cursing Abram brought the curse into their lives. If you read down through Genesis, you will find that the most common curse was barrenness. And finally, the most important promise of all in God’s declaration was that through Abram all the families (this includes gentiles) of the earth would be empowered to prosper, to be happy. This came through Christ Jesus. Now, let’s turn our attention back to the following passage.
Genesis 13:14-18 (KJV)
14 And the LORD said unto Abram, after that Lot was separated from him, Lift up now thine eyes, and look from the place where thou art northward, and southward, and eastward, and westward:
15 For all the land which thou seest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed for ever.
16 And I will make thy seed as the dust of the earth: so that if a man can number the dust of the earth, then shall thy seed also be numbered.
17 Arise, walk through the land in the length of it and in the breadth of it; for I will give it unto thee.
18 Then Abram removed his tent, and came and dwelt in the plain of Mamre, which is in Hebron, and built there an altar unto the LORD.
Abram contrary to the command of God had tarried in Haran with his father when coming from Ur of the Chaldees and now he had brought Lot into Canaan. Have any of us ever done that? Brought people with us that God never said were to be with us. In Canaan when famine came Abram and Lot fled to Egypt leaning to the arm of the flesh instead of God. Only when Abram was separated from Lot did God speak to Abram again. If it seems like some time since you heard from the Lord you might consider the obedience factor. Next we see a land grant in the preceding passage. As an aside, the word seed in this passage is masculine singular. It is referring to The Seed, Jesus. Abram was commanded to walk the length and breadth of the land, did he? No, he did not. Could this explain why Israel has never occupied the fullness of their land grant from God? What does the word Mamre mean? Rebellion.
On a personal note, it is five years today that my Patti entered into Heaven, into the arms of our Savior. She was my faithful help meet for over 53 years and she is missed. That is not to belittle my Donna, a faithful help meet now for almost 4 years. God has been really good to me, I am so blessed, and I am so thankful.
Lord willing, I will pick up right here next Sunday.
