A WELL OF TRUTH
UNDER AUTHORITY

Greetings dear and precious saints of God and welcome back to A Well of Truth. Today I am going to briefly (yes, I know what that word briefly means) discuss the idea of being under authority and being in authority. As I proceed, please take a moment and share this teaching as widely as possible by every means available to you. Thank you so much for sharing. The featured picture today shows a well with water and a bucket full of water. Water represents the Word of God. Water (the Word of God) not only brings and sustains life but cleanses. Dear ones we are drawing from the well that never runs dry. Consider the following verse from the wonderful Book of James then we will move to the account of the ill Centurions servant.
James 4:7 (KJV)
7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
As we prepare to move to the account of the ill Centurions servant let’s take a couple of things into account. How vital is submitting to God in seeing the devil flee? It is vital! If we are not submitted to God there will be no resisting of devils or fleeing of devils. If we are not submitted to God, who are we submitted to? Each of us are submitted to someone. This idea that we are our own man (woman) is a falsehood perpetrated by demons. Let’s take a look at this word submit in our English Bible. It is the word hypotassō transliterated from the Greek meaning to place in order, to place under in an orderly fashion according to The Complete Word Study Dictionary – New Testament and Strong’s Talking Greek & Hebrew Dictionary. You can see that this means we, no one makes us, take our place under, subject, to God. He is the authority in our life, no one above Him especially ourselves. Not only is He the One of highest authority in our life but we are committed to follow that authority without exception. Now let’s move to the Gospel of Matthew.
Matthew 8:5-10 (KJV)
5 And when Jesus was entered into Capernaum, there came unto him a centurion, beseeching him,
6 And saying, Lord, my servant lieth at home sick of the palsy, grievously tormented.
7 And Jesus saith unto him, I will come and heal him.
8 The centurion answered and said, Lord, I am not worthy that thou shouldest come under my roof: but speak the word only, and my servant shall be healed.
9 For I am a man under authority, having soldiers under me: and I say to this man, Go, and he goeth; and to another, Come, and he cometh; and to my servant, Do this, and he doeth it.
10 When Jesus heard it, he marvelled, and said to them that followed, Verily I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel.
Matthew 8:13 (KJV)
13 And Jesus said unto the centurion, Go thy way; and as thou hast believed, so be it done unto thee. And his servant was healed in the selfsame hour.
Don’t forget we are talking about absolute submission to God, resisting the devil, and seeing the devil flee. Did this Centurion submit, place himself under, Jesus recognizing Him as a higher authority in this situation? The text makes it clear that he did, and this was a vital part of Jesus describing him as a man of great faith, a gentile, an occupying Roman no less. What about you and me? Do we have great faith or just think we do? Look back at the Matthew text. This Roman was under authority, his commander, even Caesar, and he had 100 or more men under him. When he is submitted to his commander, he has authority and the backing of the whole Roman army concerning those under him. Remember that all disease involves the presence of demonic powers.
Acts 10:38 (KJV)
38 How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.
Back to our account from Matthew. When the Centurion submitted to Jesus completely what he, the Centurion came to pass for in that place he had authority over the devils oppressing his servant and they had to flee. Look at verse thirteen carefully.
Lord willing, I will pick up with this again next Sunday.
