IOWA SUPREME COURT
Greetings dear and precious saints of God. Another week is off and running. Can you believe we are almost a quarter of the way through 2023? Are we redeeming, making the best use of this time, our most precious asset? Thank you for rejoining us for our ongoing Bible Study of the wonderful Book of Isaiah. As we move forward let’s take a moment and share this teaching as widely as possible expanding our reach with the good news. It is almost insulting to call this good news more or less relegating it with all other forms of good news. For example most would consider it good news to be notified they had just inherited a billion (with a b) dollars. However, this news of the Kingdom and its impact, its benefit when received, believed, and acted upon is eternal. That billion dollars will pass away and be quite irrelevant in the times to come, already at the door. The featured picture today is of the Supreme Court for the State of Iowa and is to remind us to pray for those in authority, all in authority. The Scripture even tells us how to pray so I don’t want to hear that you don’t know how to pray for those in authority. That includes those you like and those you don’t like.
1 Timothy 2:1-3 (New Jerusalem Bible)
1 I urge then, first of all that petitions, prayers, intercessions and thanksgiving should be offered for everyone,
2 for kings and others in authority, so that we may be able to live peaceful and quiet lives with all devotion and propriety.
3 To do this is right, and acceptable to God our Saviour:
We are not to just pray for those in authority but to honor them and obey.
Titus 3:1 (KJV)
1 Put them in mind to be subject to principalities and powers, to obey magistrates, to be ready to every good work,
There seems to be a lot of confusion about these verses in the body of Christ. That confusion is of the demons, our own lusts, and pride of life. Now let’s turn our attention to our primary Bible text in the wonderful Book of Isaiah continuing to read out loud. Yes, out loud, you know why.
Isaiah 40:9-11 (KJV)
9 O Zion, that bringest good tidings, get thee up into the high mountain; O Jerusalem, that bringest good tidings, lift up thy voice with strength; lift it up, be not afraid; say unto the cities of Judah, Behold your God!
10 Behold, the Lord GOD will come with strong hand, and his arm shall rule for him: behold, his reward is with him, and his work before him.
11 He shall feed his flock like a shepherd: he shall gather the lambs with his arm, and carry them in his bosom, and shall gently lead those that are with young.
As you are well aware I have spent quite a bit of time on this passage. I have been attempting to establish an understandable context. You will recall that we decided that verse nine best describes the first coming of Christ and the tenth verse the time of the Second Coming of Christ. Today I want to spend a little time on “his reward” and “his work”.
Frequently when a saved person moves to Heaven it is said that they have gone on to get their reward. Is that true? When do we get our reward? When has the full effect of our life come to an end? Do any rewards accrue after we leave this earth or is that it? One of the things one might ask is this: when and where does the Judgment Seat of Christ occur? Perhaps there is a clue in the verse (ten) under discussion. Let me put the reward and work answer in one nutshell. It seems that the reward for what was done or not will be revealed here in the earth at the beginning of the Millennial Reign of Christ. Perhaps this will occur in the new administrative building which will occupy the cleft created in the Mount of Olives when Jesus returns. He will rule the earth with us from there.
Zechariah 14:4 (KJV)
4 And his feet shall stand in that day upon the mount of Olives, which is before Jerusalem on the east, and the mount of Olives shall cleave in the midst thereof toward the east and toward the west, and there shall be a very great valley; and half of the mountain shall remove toward the north, and half of it toward the south.
The timing of the judging of the heathen is much more clear, occurring in a space of time when this creation is folded up and a new heaven and earth comes into being.
Revelation 20:11-12 (KJV)
11 And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them.
12 And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.
I don’t know about you but I do not want to have any part with this group. Not having a part with the heathen starts now.
2 Corinthians 6:14-17 (KJV)
14 Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?
15 And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel?
16 And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.
17 Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you,
Lord willing, I will pick up right here tomorrow.
