OUR DIVINE LOVE IS NOT WORLDLY “LOVE”

Today we will continue our study of divine love, Godly love, love that only the three persons of God and the children are capable of expressing. This study will follow the basic outline of my book titled “Awake, Arise, and Triumph – Be Love”. This will be longer than the book since I fully expect the Holy Spirit to give me and you additional insights, revelation light. Think of it a little like the Amplified Bible compared to the King James Bible. It is past time for the body of Christ to awake, arise, and walk in the triumph Christ bought and paid for at Calvary.
Before we plunge into the teaching on other Greek words translated to English as love which are not agapē/ agapaō let me share a God given definition of this Divine love. This is the definition of agapē (Greek Strong’s Number: 26) or agapaō (Greek Strong’s Number: 25) which the Lord gave me in my study of this topic some years ago.
“Love is a deep and constant interest in a person. It is a function of the will. It is right (righteous – Biblical) and reflects or is born of the blood covenant. This love is not dependent on the recipient in any way but is solely dependent on the giver.”
I do want to point out at this time that the natural man (unsaved) is incapable of the God kind of love. This love, agapē/agapaō, is in the spirit or immaterial part of a person, which is the part God breathed into man at his making. The spirit of the sinner is dead, separated from God, therefore there can be no supernatural manifestation of this spiritual fruit. For the child of God, the Word of God on our lips activates the fruit of our spirit and the Holy Spirit brings it to harvest. Let me say again that the focus of the book, “Awake, Arise, and Triumph – Be Love” is on the highest form of love, agapē (Strong’s Greek Number: 26) love, or agapaō (Strong’s Greek Number: 25) which is the God kind of love. By saying this is the God kind of love, I am saying that it originates with God and is only possible in God and the children of God. Scripture tells us that God is love (1 John 4:8). If God is love, we also are love since we are made in His image and likeness. We are of like kind, and He breathed of Himself (spirit and soul) into this flesh (Genesis 2:7).
Natural people and Christian people alike due to ignorance have all sorts of things or relationships that they call love but do not fit the definition of this God kind of love. In the English language we use the word “love” for all kinds of things, situations or activities like “I love my cat”, “I love ice cream”, “I love to dance”, and “I love my wife”. You can probably think of a myriad of other examples but only one of these I mentioned fits in the God type of love category and that is, “I love my wife”. Only the born-again believer can say in truth that they love (agapē or agapaō) their wife (spouse) all others are incapable. Yes, those of the world can have a form of all the fruits of the spirit but not the supernatural fruit thereof. Sometimes the translators of the King James Version of the Bible have translated the Greek word agapē to the English word charity instead of love. Whenever you see the word charity (Strong’s Greek Number: 26) it is always talking about the love that can only be expressed by God or His children.
The main reason that I am taking the space and time to delve into this area of very different words being translated as love to point out that proper study of the Bible requires that we evaluate every word. Translators have biases and filters like the rest of us. Consider the following example.
Psalm 8:5 (KJV)
5 For thou hast made him a little lower than the angels, and hast crowned him with glory and honour.
The word translated as “angels” in this text is the Hebrew word transliterated as ʾelōhîm according to Strong’s Talking Greek & Hebrew Dictionary. The word ʾelōhîm is the pleural of God (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit). This is the same word translated as God in the following verse.
Genesis 1:1 (KJV)
1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
TAKE HOME:
- “Love is a deep and constant interest in a person. It is a function of the will. It is right (righteous – Biblical) and reflects or is born of the blood covenant. This love is not dependent on the recipient in any way but is solely dependent on the giver.”
- Natural people and Christian people alike due to ignorance have all sorts of things or relationships that they call love but do not fit the definition of this God kind of love.
- The proper study of the Bible requires that we evaluate every word. Translators have biases and filters like the rest of us.
Lord willing, I will resume right here next week. Remember, we love you, the Lord loves you, and there is nothing you can do about either one.
