Greetings dear friends and saints of God and welcome back to this engaging study of the Bible Book of Isaiah. If you are not a saint become one right now, believe in your heart that the Father raised Jesus from the dead and confess with your mouth that He is Lord (one of highest authority in ALL arenas of your life). Please take a moment and share this teaching as widely as possible by every means available to you. Thank you for sharing. The featured picture today is of Donna and me outside the Saltgrass for my recent birthday (August).
Now, let’s turn our attention, continuing to read out loud, to our primary Bible text in the wonderful Book of Isaiah. Today the text is presented in the English Standard Version. This version of the Bible is a word for word translation, published in 2001, at an 8th grade reading level. For your information Rose Publishing produces many wonderful tools and among them is a pamphlet titled “Bible Translations Comparison”.
Isaiah 48:9-13 (ESV)
9 “For my name’s sake I defer my anger, for the sake of my praise I restrain it for you, that I may not cut you off.
10 Behold, I have refined you, but not as silver; I have tried you in the furnace of affliction.
11 For my own sake, for my own sake, I do it, for how should my name be profaned? My glory I will not give to another.
12 “Listen to me, O Jacob, and Israel, whom I called! I am he; I am the first, and I am the last.
13 My hand laid the foundation of the earth, and my right hand spread out the heavens; when I call to them, they stand forth together.
The use of the word “praise” in the ninth verse has to do with the character of God. Consider this verse in this context.
Malachi 3:6 (ESV)
6 “For I the LORD do not change; therefore you, O children of Jacob, are not consumed.
One of the character traits of God, one might even say a fruit of His Spirit, is long-suffering or patience. Even though they are really ticking Him off so to speak, He will not violate His character. There is a lesson there for us. Have you ever gotten angry with someone, impatient, and cut them off with angry words you regretted later. I suspect the answer is ‘yes’, we all have. The points out that He has chosen them even in the midst of their troubles. It is my observation that their troubles like most in my life are self-induced. The Lord does not bring trouble to test a person. He, God, may have to allow trouble due to circumstances of our own making. The trigger for trouble actually getting in is us, the trouble maker is the devil. Think of it this way. We sin and don’t repent even with prompting of the Holy Spirit, seeing it in the Word, even hearing teachings. The door is open to the demons. The devils bring their case and in the absence of our repentance they get a judgment (like Job). Repentance can at any point short-circuit the enemies access to us.
As we examine verse eleven of our main text, we find the phrase “My glory I will not give to another”. The glory of God is the manifested goodness of God. This can take many forms. For example, the fire by night and cloud by day would be an example of the glory (manifested goodness) of God. We see in the Ministry of Jesus when someone was healed that they went away glorifying God, or declaring the manifested goodness of God. He will not allow you or me to take credit for what He has done nor any of our idols.
Lord willing, I will pick up right here next week. Tomorrow is a Hebrew Feast. Remember we love you and there is nothing you can do about it.

2 Chronicles 20:20 b (KJV)
20 … Believe in the LORD your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper.
Ecclesiastes 12:13-14 (KJV)
13 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.
14 For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.
