Greetings dear friends and saints of God and welcome back to this engaging study of the Bible Book of Isaiah. If you are not a saint become one right now, believe in your heart that the Father raised Jesus from the dead and confess with your mouth that He is Lord (one of highest authority in ALL arenas of your life). Please take a moment and share this teaching as widely as possible by every means available to you. Thank you for sharing. The featured picture today is of a pair of cute racoons and was provided by Marilyn Stevens. Thank you so much Marilyn for your beautiful pictures.
Now, let’s turn our attention, continuing to read out loud, to our primary Bible text in the wonderful Book of Isaiah. Today the text is presented in the English Standard Version. This version of the Bible is a word for word translation, published in 2001, at an 8th grade reading level. For your information Rose Publishing produces many wonderful tools and among them is a pamphlet titled “Bible Translations Comparison”.
Isaiah 48:5-9 (ESV)
5 I declared them to you from of old, before they came to pass I announced them to you, lest you should say, ‘My idol did them, my carved image and my metal image commanded them.’
6 “You have heard; now see all this; and will you not declare it? From this time forth I announce to you new things, hidden things that you have not known.
7 They are created now, not long ago; before today you have never heard of them, lest you should say, ‘Behold, I knew them.’
8 You have never heard, you have never known, from of old your ear has not been opened. For I knew that you would surely deal treacherously, and that from before birth you were called a rebel.
9 “For my name’s sake I defer my anger, for the sake of my praise I restrain it for you, that I may not cut you off.
We are now into several chapters of this Book of Isaiah with the Lord making His case that He is the One and only God. Over and over pointing out that neither they nor their idols are gods. He even mocks that they have no power, no ability to tell the future and it come to pass. He, God, even accuses His people of being know it all’s in verse seven. The word “treacherously” in verse eight is to be deceitful. One might wonder when the Lord declares they were like this in the womb. Whose choice was that, Gods or their parents (forefathers)? Let’s take a look at the first of the ten commandments.
Exodus 20:1-6 (KJV)
1 And God spake all these words, saying,
2 I am the LORD thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.
3 Thou shalt have no other gods before me.
4 Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth:
5 Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;
6 And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.
God, our God, is really serious about His people, any people, having another god before Him. You see how the sin of the fathers puts the child at risk of being idolators as well? This true across the board, for the good or the bad. Remember however that this predisposition does not have to be the destiny of the child, we have choice. What will we choose, what have we chosen. Have we examined our lives to determine what gods we might have before the One True God?
Lord willing, I will pick up right here tomorrow.

20 … Believe in the LORD your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper.
Ecclesiastes 12:13-14 (KJV)
13 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.
14 For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.
