DO ALL HIS COMMANDMENTS – PART EIGHT
Greetings dear and precious saints of God and welcome back to From the Prophets Chamber and the topic Do All His Commands. Please take a moment and share this teaching as widely as possible by every means available to you. Thank you for sharing. This teaching is designed to hammer home the vital importance of obeying the commands of God and none other. The whole of Scripture speaks to this fact but somehow it does not get done. People claim to know this but their lives do not show the evidence, the fruit. God is not picking winners and losers, making some rich and others poor, some sick and others healthy and so on. We commonly hear the exclamation that He is Sovereign, that His ways are higher than our ways, beyond our understanding. Sovereign although commonly used in reference to God is not a Bible word however, I will concede that the various descriptions of God are consistent with being Sovereign.
So, what does the word ‘sovereign’ mean? It means the one who is a supreme ruler such as a monarch. Having authority and having control are two very different things. Any parent knows this. God does not make any person do anything, it is always our choice, His child or not. Jesus is the head of the Church, the One of highest authority, the One from whom we receive instruction. When was the last time He made you do anything? I am talking about controlling you or me like a robot or a puppet not convicting us by His Word, the Holy Spirit, or messengers in our lives. The answer is never! We chose dear ones. He made us with a freewill meaning we are free to exercise our will. The whole of Scripture reflects or shouts this, Truth! What have you chosen, what have I chosen? The answer to what we have chosen is evidenced in the life we now live.
With regard to various rulers down through history you may have heard the phrase that God puts one up and another down at will. Are all the rulers down through history His choice, His will that they rule? Of course not! Could it be that these rulers coming to power was the consequence of the thoughts, words, and actions of people in the earth? Down through history multiplied millions have died at the hands of despot rulers. What about Adolph Hitler and some 25 million deaths that resulted from his being in power not to mention the attempted genocide of the Jews. All the will and plan of God? What about Joseph Stalin with as many as 40 million excess deaths during his rule? Again, all the will and plan of God? All of this and much much more were the result of a disobedient impotent Church. History records that when the Nazi’s were taking the Jews to extermination camps on railroad cars and they were screaming for help the Church literally just sang a little louder.
Dietrich Bonhoeffer, a German pastor and theologian wrote of a conversation he had with a fellow pastor shortly before he was arrested. The pastor confided in him, “It was horrible. Our church is right beside the railway tracks. We can hear the trains going by carrying Jews toward the camps. At first it was rare, but now they go by several times a day. One Sunday several weeks ago, something terribly embarrassing happened. We were right in the middle of our service and the noise from the trains was deafening. Then, just as we were singing worship songs, we heard people crying out, ‘Help us! Help us!’”
Bonhoeffer, horrified, asked him, “Well, what did you do?” The pastor answered, “For a moment I wasn’t sure what to do, but then I told the church congregation, ‘Brothers and sisters, let’s sing louder!’”
Are we, too, “singing louder” so we won’t hear the cries for help so near to us?”
I realize I may have gotten off track a little but I hope this spurs us to obedience and the showing of a really dark world how life is to look for those who will honor God. Let’s read our text and Lord willing I will pick up right here next Saturday.
Deuteronomy 28:1-4 (KJV)
1 And it shall come to pass, if thou shalt hearken diligently unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to observe and to do all his commandments which I command thee this day, that the LORD thy God will set thee on high above all nations of the earth:
2 And all these blessings shall come on thee, and overtake thee, if thou shalt hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God.
3 Blessed shalt thou be in the city, and blessed shalt thou be in the field.
4 Blessed shall be the fruit of thy body, and the fruit of thy ground, and the fruit of thy cattle, the increase of thy kine, and the flocks of thy sheep.
