A WELL OF TRUTH
THE BLESSING OF ABRAHAM – PART EIGHT
Greetings dear and precious saints of God and welcome back to drawing from A Well of Truth. Today we will continue with part eight of looking at the Blessing of Abraham. As we prepare to dive into our teaching, please take a moment and share this teaching as widely as possible by every means available to you. Thank you for sharing. Also, remember to be reading out loud. You know why, please don’t be rebellious. The featured picture is a well with lots of water and bucket full of water about to be drawn from that well. The water is the Word of God that gives life (zōē Strong’s Talking Greek & Hebrew Dictionary, life as God knows life) and cleanses. Receiving life and/or cleansing is not automatic, it is our choice, what have you chosen? Let’s again start our study by going to these familiar Scriptures in the Apostle Pauls’ epistle to the saints at Galatia.
Galatians 3:13-14 (KJV)
13 Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:
14 That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.
Galatians 3:29 (KJV)
29 And if ye be Christ’s, then are ye Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.
Today we will continue watching the promises unfold and finally securing the Blessing of Abraham for all peoples. As many of you know Abram/Abraham did not start out and in fact it took almost 25 years to secure the faith that would bring a Messiah and the final act which secured the Messiah for all for all time took upwards of 50 years. You’ll see. Now, let’s continue our journey into chapter fifteen of Genesis.
Genesis 15:7-11 (KJV)
7 And he said unto him, I am the LORD that brought thee out of Ur of the Chaldees, to give thee this land to inherit it.
8 And he said, Lord GOD, whereby shall I know that I shall inherit it?
9 And he said unto him, Take me an heifer of three years old, and a she goat of three years old, and a ram of three years old, and a turtledove, and a young pigeon.
10 And he took unto him all these, and divided them in the midst, and laid each piece one against another: but the birds divided he not.
11 And when the fowls came down upon the carcases, Abram drove them away.
Once again we are seeing or hearing (you are reading out loud, right?) of the Devine Land Grant for the nation of Israel. And now we see God (the Father) starting to cut a Covenant with Abram. But, as you will see this is not only the beginning of a Blood Covenant with Abram for the land of the future nation of Israel but with the Word, and the Eternal Spirit.
Genesis 15:17-18 (KJV)
17 And it came to pass, that, when the sun went down, and it was dark, behold a smoking furnace, and a burning lamp that passed between those pieces.
18 In the same day the LORD made a covenant with Abram, saying, Unto thy seed have I given this land, from the river of Egypt unto the great river, the river Euphrates:
What about the imagery of “a smoking furnace and a burning lamp”? The smoking furnace is imagery of the Holy Spirit or Eternal Spirit. Remember the cloud by day to guide the Israelite’s? What about the burning lamp? Notice this verse in the discussion of the New Jerusalem.
Revelation 21:23 (KJV)
23 And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof.
The word ‘lighten’ associated with “the glory of God” and ‘light’ associated with “the Lamb” are two different Greek words. The word ‘light’ associated with the Lamb is a portable light. We also are portable lights. The other word ‘lighten’ associated with the Father is a generalized light that lights all of the new heaven and the new earth. So, here we see four persons involved in this Blood Covenant, The Father, the Son (to come), and the Holy Spirit plus Abram. The sacrificed animals are the surrogate blood for God in relation to this Covenant. As we will see soon Abram will shed blood (circumcision) and finally Jesus on the Cross shedding blood for God and mankind. The word “seed” in Genesis 15:18 is masculine singular referring to Jesus, the coming Messiah. Then we see the bounds of the coming nation of Israel. The Jews have never occupied all of the land but they will during the Millennial Reign of Christ.
So, the Blood Covenant is unfolding little by little to legally bring the Messiah into the earth. This is contrary to the popular non-biblical teaching that God can do as He pleases when He wants because He is Sovereign. God certainly has the Power but not the authority and He will not break His own laws. Authority (dominion) was given to man therefore God restricted Himself to work through mankind. This transfer of authority started in the Garden of Eden, continues in the Old Testament even after the Serpent got access to this authority through subterfuge and will continue.
Lord willing, I will pick up right here next Sunday with Chapter seventeen of Genesis.
