DO ALL HIS COMMANDMENTS – PART FIVE
Greetings dear and precious saints of God and welcome back to From the Prophets Chamber. This week I will be continuing to teach from Deuteronomy chapter twenty-eight. This is so important dear ones. The Lord has a wonderful life planned out for all of us but it does not happen automatically. We either make it happen or not. The very dirty word obedience is the master key. As you know I reference this chapter often when referring to the blessings of God and the curse which is of ourselves. Do not be confused, we trigger the blessing in obedience to God and we trigger the curse in obedience to Satan. God is not going about blessing some and cursing others due to some unfathomable plan that brings glory to Him and somehow works for our good. Before I go further, please take a moment and share this teaching as widely as possible by every means available to you. Thank you for sharing. Deuteronomy 28:1-2 (KJV)
1 And it shall come to pass, if thou shalt hearken diligently unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to observe and to do all his commandments which I command thee this day, that the LORD thy God will set thee on high above all nations of the earth:
2 And all these blessings shall come on thee, and overtake thee, if thou shalt hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God.
When God says a certain thing “shall come to pass” not maybe, not sometimes, or perhaps, or you just never know, we need to give what He is talking about close attention. The Lord then lays out three requirements for blessings, to come upon us. A blessing is an empowerment for prosperity, for happiness in our obedience to Him. We must listen with ears to hear, to understand, and implement. Second, we are “to observe” the voice of the Lord our God. This word, observe, is far more than to simply look at. Here is the definition of the Hebrew word transliterated to English as shāmar meaning to hedge about, guard, to protect, attend to, be circumspect, take heed, keep, mark, look narrowly, observe, preserve, regard, reserve, save, wait (for), and to watch (-man) according to Strong’s Talking Greek & Hebrew Dictionary. Third we are to do all His commands. Can you believe it? We are to actually do all of His commands! (Mild author sarcasm added) Do we really understand this? God is not unjust so we are well able especially in Christ Jesus with the help of the Holy Spirit. Many reading this believe they are doing all of His commands. Are all of the blessings enumerated down through verse thirteen present in our lives? If not, then we are not doing all that He commands in faith motivated of love (agapē). This is very simple little children.
The Lord concludes the first verse telling us that when we do all of His commands He will set us high above the nations, the heathen, around about us. Last week I reminded us of the Prophet Daniel and the three Hebrew children and they were found to be ten times better than the heathen. What about us? I have discussed many times how we are to do the works Jesus did (John 14:12). Yes, you and me, believers. He also said in the same verse that we were to do greater works for He has gone to the Father. I have pointed out that these greater works are at least in part spelled out in Isaiah sixty-one. Let’s look at a portion of this.
Isaiah 61:4-6 (KJV)
4 And they shall build the old wastes, they shall raise up the former desolations, and they shall repair the waste cities, the desolations of many generations.
5 And strangers shall stand and feed your flocks, and the sons of the alien shall be your plowmen and your vinedressers.
6 But ye shall be named the Priests of the LORD: men shall call you the Ministers of our God: ye shall eat the riches of the Gentiles, and in their glory shall ye boast yourselves.
How is this not the same as our Deuteronomy text? This brings us to verse two.
Deuteronomy 28:2 (KJV)
2 And all these blessings shall come on thee, and overtake thee, if thou shalt hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God.
This is what the Lord said through Moses (writer of this Book) as he prepares to enumerate the blessings available to the obedient child of God, the one who will do all his commandments. Never forget, this is not automatic. Opportunities will overtake us but we must act upon them to actuate (activate, trigger) the opportunity. Think on the parables of the “pounds” and “talents”. Read the Scriptures below from 2nd Chronicles and Ecclesiastes.

13 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.
14 For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.
