FROM THE PROPHETS CHAMBER – WEEK SIXTY-ONE
CHRISTIANS AND TRAGEDY – PART TWO

Greetings precious children of the Most High God and welcome back to “From the Prophets Chamber”. I want to repeat this week, that even when we don’t feel or think we are precious we are indeed precious beyond silver, and gold.
1 Peter 1:18-20 (KJV)
18 Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers;
19 But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:
20 Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you,
The value of something is determined by the price someone is willing to pay. God was willing to pay with His own precious Blood, there is no higher price, for every one of us and He did it with joy. Jesus, God incarnate paid the highest price possible for each one of us individually, He did it willingly, and He did it with joy restoring us as His very own children and heir of all in Christ Jesus. Yes, ALL! Let us not even for a moment think of ourselves as worthless, useless, and a failure! We are Gods’ very own most prized treasure, saints of God. Even our choosing disobedience to God, the Word, does not change our value. Just as when our kids disobey us, they remain a treasure to us even in our disappointment and the process of corrective actions or seeing them suffer as a consequence of their choices. Our natural (and spiritual) children just like us are freewill beings for better or for worse.
Now let’s turn our attention to our primary teaching for this series; “Christians and Tragedy”. When tragedy strikes a fellow Christian, especially someone we know, we seem perplexed. We see this all around us, on every side, sometimes in slow motion (a chronic disease deadly or not) or a sudden incapacitation or death by whatever means. Last week I presented a couple of Scriptures (two witnesses) that tragedy, the curse in our lives, is NEVER the will of God, period.
John 10:10 (KJV)
10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.
The devil is the culprit bringing stealing, killing, and destroying into lives. God brings life as He knows life now for evermore.
2 Peter 3:9 (KJV)
9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
Our God is good and He is nothing but good, period! It is not His will that anyone perish (be destroyed). What is the repentance thing all about at the end of 2 Peter 3:9? Hint, He is not talking only to heathens’ dear ones. Let’s turn to the Book of Luke.
Luke 13:1-3 (KJV)
1 There were present at that season some that told him of the Galilaeans, whose blood Pilate had mingled with their sacrifices.
2 And Jesus answering said unto them, Suppose ye that these Galilaeans were sinners above all the Galilaeans, because they suffered such things?
3 I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.
What requires repentance? Sin requires repentance. So, the preceding Scripture from the mouth of the Master in His earthly ministry tells us these perished due to unrepented sin. He also points out that the same may happen to us if we have given place to the devil with unrepented sin. Let’s follow this passage just a little further.
Luke 13:4-5 (KJV)
4 Or those eighteen, upon whom the tower in Siloam fell, and slew them, think ye that they were sinners above all men that dwelt in Jerusalem?
5 I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.
Jesus gives another example of a tragedy among believers pointing out that they were not as some supposed worse sinners than others. And again, we see the admonition that if we don’t repent the same will happen to us.
Lord willing, I will pick up right here next Saturday.
2 Chronicles 20:20 b (KJV)
20 … Believe in the LORD your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper.
Receive the blessing in Jesus’ name!
Numbers 6:24-26 (MSG)
24 GOD bless you and keep you,
25 GOD smile on you and gift you,
26 GOD look you full in the face and make you prosper.
