GIFTS OF THE SPIRIT – PART SEVENTEEN
Greetings and welcome to all who join this blog, the Friday Bible Study titled “Gifts”. I am currently focused on the nine gifts of the Spirit (Holy Spirit). Come expecting to hear from the Lord, to receive anything needed of the Lord, and to be a conduit for the Lord to touch others. This is a powerful life changing Bible Study. Now, let’s prepare to dive into our study of gifts from God. I am currently dealing specifically with the nine gifts of the Holy Spirit. These gifts of the Spirit convey a supernatural ability. Now, let’s turn our attention to and review the Apostle Paul’s discussion of these nine gifts by the unction of the Holy Spirit.
1 Corinthians 12:1 (KJV)
1 Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I would not have you ignorant.
1 Corinthians 12:4-11 (KJV)
4 Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit.
5 And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord.
6 And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all.
7 But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal.
8 For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit;
9 To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit;
10 To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues:
11 But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will.
I have been spending quite a bit of time dealing with the difference between the tongues we receive at the time of our Baptism in the Holy Spirit and the gift of tongues. They are both gifts but serve very different purposes. The tongues we receive with the Baptism of the Holy Spirit is essential to an effective prayer life. There are many times when we do not know how we should pray. It is at these times, really at all times, when we seek the Father that we should pray in tongues about the person or situation. When we pray, talk to, the Father in tongues we can be assured we have prayed the perfect will of God. I don’t think anyone would contest that the Holy Spirit knows the perfect will of God.
Romans 8:26 (KJV)
26 Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.
The Holy Spirit supplies the language, the words, and we supply the voice.
Acts 2:4 (KJV)
4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
Finally, as we proceed with our study of tongues let’s examine the following verse which illuminates the importance of tongues in the building of our faith.
Jude 1:20 (KJV)
20 But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost,
One might say; I thought faith came by hearing the Anointed Word of God.
Romans 10:17 (KJV)
17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
So, then, since I don’t understand what I am saying, how am I able to build up my faith? Good question. Well let’s take a moment and think about this. Romans 10:17 says that faith comes from hearing, and our hearing is enhanced by the Word of God. What hearing is being talked about here? It seems to me Scripture is talking not only about physical hearing but spiritual hearing, just as when Jesus says; let him who has ears to hear, hear. Our spiritual hearing is enhanced, even made possible, by the Word of God. The more Word of God we listen to the better our spiritual hearing and our understanding even the impartation of revelation. So, when we are speaking in tongues with the Holy Spirit supplying the language and we supply the voice we are speaking the Words of God. Our natural man, our mind, doesn’t understand a word of it but our spirit man understands and leaps for joy and is strengthened. I don’t want to make anyone apoplectic but our spirit is of God (mind, will, and emotions as well) and has the same capacity for understanding as God.
Lord willing, next week I will pick up with the gift of tongues as one of the nine gifts of the Holy Spirit as well as the gift of the interpretation of tongues.
2 Chronicles 20:20b (KJV)
20 … Believe in the LORD your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper.
Until our next publication, as a Bible Teacher and Prophetic Voice I speak this blessing over each and every one of you, receive it, believe it, and speak over yourself and your family by faith in Jesus name! Quit asking God to bless you, you are already blessed, you have the Blessing, give Him something to do by the words of your mouth. Once you know the will of God, decree the thing (Job 22:28, Isaiah 45:11, Mark 11:23). (The Blessing is the Holy Spirit) We have left God way to long with nothing to do in our lives.
Numbers 6:24-26 (AMP)
24 The Lord bless you and watch, guard, and keep you;
25 The Lord make His face to shine upon and enlighten you and be gracious (kind, merciful, and giving favor) to you;
26 The Lord lift up His [approving] countenance upon you and give you peace (tranquility of heart and life continually).
