HEALTH, HEALING, AND MIRACLES – PART TWENTY-EIGHT
Sunday – September 16, 2018, Tishrei 7, 5779
Greetings and welcome back to another Sunday of health, healing, and miracles. God is so good. All of this is in our salvation package. Everything that God is ever going to do for anyone of us is in the salvation package. Salvation is obtained by faith and everything in the salvation package is obtained by faith whether it be in this life or that which is to come. Yes, we will still be operating by faith in Heaven. Faith is based on knowledge, the right knowledge, the Word of God. No knowledge, no faith, it’s that simple. So, if we have not been diligent in the earth we will be in classes and training before the Lord can use us for His purposes in Heaven and in the material spaces outside of Heaven.
Let’s now turn our attention to a man with an unclean spirit in the Synagogue. Are there any with unclean spirits in your Synagogue (Church) or mine? Brother and sister, they are everywhere, some are some are with nonbelievers but most are with the Christians. Notice again, this man was in Church. There is a discussion as to whether a Christian can be demon possessed or not. The general consensus I believe is that they cannot be demon possessed but they sure can be lousy with devils. The account of this situation both in Mark and Luke does not say that this man is possessed by a devil or demons but that the devil or the unclean spirit (devil) was with him. Yes, we can allow devils to travel with and live with us. Let’s go ahead and look at our text.
Mark 1:21-28 (KJV)
21 And they went into Capernaum; and straightway on the sabbath day he entered into the synagogue, and taught.
22 And they were astonished at his doctrine: for he taught them as one that had authority, and not as the scribes.
23 And there was in their synagogue a man with an unclean spirit; and he cried out,
24 Saying, Let us alone; what have we to do with thee, thou Jesus of Nazareth? art thou come to destroy us? I know thee who thou art, the Holy One of God.
25 And Jesus rebuked him, saying, Hold thy peace, and come out of him.
26 And when the unclean spirit had torn him, and cried with a loud voice, he came out of him.
27 And they were all amazed, insomuch that they questioned among themselves, saying, What thing is this? what new doctrine is this? for with authority commandeth he even the unclean spirits, and they do obey him.
28 And immediately his fame spread abroad throughout all the region round about Galilee.
Notice that the people in the Synagogue that day were astonished concerning Jesus’ doctrine for it was not as the Scribes taught. Have you ever had someone come to your Church and teach/preach right out of Scripture and be ostracized or not invited back? Then you are told by the Scribes that the doctrine was false for it is not what we believe, that is in spite of it being directly from Scripture. This is not uncommon. This is a part of the explanation for the deadness of our Churches. Jesus taught with authority, they could tell that He really knew what He was talking about. Jesus didn’t have the most receptive audience that day in the Synagogue however this man with an unclean (evil) spirit was drawn to Jesus, drawn to stay and see what Jesus had to say. The devils wanted out of there on the other hand. The Anointing was so strong that the devils had to announce themselves and bow, bend the knee. These demons know the Scripture, they know there is a day coming when they will be thrown into the Lake of Fire to eternal destruction. Please notice there is one demon with the man but many (see the pleural) are present. It seems that this is a pattern, they travel in groups. Christians are high above all devils and even an unsaved person can resist a demon. They accomplish their will by deception getting us to allow them to work through us. This is no different than the fact that we have to submit to the Holy Spirit for God to work through us. Let us take a moment and review this same account in the gospel of Dr. Luke.
Luke 4:31-37 (KJV)
31 And came down to Capernaum, a city of Galilee, and taught them on the sabbath days.
32 And they were astonished at his doctrine: for his word was with power.
33 And in the synagogue there was a man, which had a spirit of an unclean devil, and cried out with a loud voice,
34 Saying, Let us alone; what have we to do with thee, thou Jesus of Nazareth? art thou come to destroy us? I know thee who thou art; the Holy One of God.
35 And Jesus rebuked him, saying, Hold thy peace, and come out of him. And when the devil had thrown him in the midst, he came out of him, and hurt him not.
36 And they were all amazed, and spake among themselves, saying, What a word is this! for with authority and power he commandeth the unclean spirits, and they come out.
37 And the fame of him went out into every place of the country round about.
In verse thirty-two above the word “power” is authority (the Greek word transliterated to English as exousia) and the same is true for the word “authority” in verse thirty-six. However, the word “power” in verse thirty-six is the dynamis wonder working power of God according to Strong’s Talking Greek & Hebrew Dictionary. That same authority and power is to work in and through us it did through Jesus. We are to speak with absolute authority and the power of God will flow. In order to operate in the authority Jesus returned to mankind at His ascension we must have faith in the Word of God, therefore, we must know the Word of God. Faith coupled with the Anointing always brings supernatural results. Are demons in our presence crying out for mercy or are they making a mockery of us? Why?
