HIS WORK

Church at Walnut Hill
Greetings dear and precious saints of God. Another week is off and running. Can you believe we are almost a quarter of the way through 2023? Are we redeeming, making the best use of this time, our most precious asset? Thank you for rejoining us for our ongoing Bible Study of the wonderful Book of Isaiah. As we move forward let’s take a moment and share this teaching as widely as possible expanding our reach with the good news. It is almost insulting to call this good news more or less relegating it with all other forms of good news. For example, most would consider it good news to be notified they had just inherited a billion (with a b) dollars. However, this news of the Kingdom and its impact, its benefit when received, believed, and acted upon is eternal. That billion dollars will pass away and be quite irrelevant in the times to come, already at the door. The featured picture today is of a Church in Iowa to remind us to pray for our brothers and sister.
Ephesians 6:18 (MSG)
18 In the same way, prayer is essential in this ongoing warfare. Pray hard and long. Pray for your brothers and sisters. Keep your eyes open. Keep each other’s spirits up so that no one falls behind or drops out.
Yesterday as I was concluding I presented the following Scripture. I was teaching in the context of the White Throne Judgment and not wanting to be a part of that judgment. That judgment is of the unbeliever.
2 Corinthians 6:14-17 (KJV)
14 Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?
15 And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel?
16 And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.
17 Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you,
As we pray for one another and ourselves let us be quick to separate from the unclean things. We are in the world but we are not to be of the world. The world is to see a sharp contrast between us and themselves. The goodness, the glory, of God is to shine out in our lives showing a stark contrast with their own lives. Now, let’s switch our attention back to our primary Bible text in Isaiah continuing to read out loud.
Isaiah 40:9-11 (KJV)
9 O Zion, that bringest good tidings, get thee up into the high mountain; O Jerusalem, that bringest good tidings, lift up thy voice with strength; lift it up, be not afraid; say unto the cities of Judah, Behold your God!
10 Behold, the Lord GOD will come with strong hand, and his arm shall rule for him: behold, his reward is with him, and his work before him.
11 He shall feed his flock like a shepherd: he shall gather the lambs with his arm, and carry them in his bosom, and shall gently lead those that are with young.
Yesterday I discussed when and where the Judgment Seat of Christ occurred. It is at the Judgment Seat that we experience either loss or gain and it is here that we receive our assignments. Keep in mind that although we may separate the reward and the work in our minds, they are likely the same or closely associated. As we consider this let’s look at what I hope is a familiar passage.
Luke 19:12-17 (KJV)
12 He said therefore, A certain nobleman went into a far country to receive for himself a kingdom, and to return.
13 And he called his ten servants, and delivered them ten pounds, and said unto them, Occupy till I come.
14 But his citizens hated him, and sent a message after him, saying, We will not have this man to reign over us.
15 And it came to pass, that when he was returned, having received the kingdom, then he commanded these servants to be called unto him, to whom he had given the money, that he might know how much every man had gained by trading.
16 Then came the first, saying, Lord, thy pound hath gained ten pounds.
17 And he said unto him, Well, thou good servant: because thou hast been faithful in a very little, have thou authority over ten cities.
In this parable, Jesus is the nobleman and we are the servants. Notice how the servants reward of ten cities, and his work, authority over and managing ten cities, is all the same. So with Jesus entering the Millennial reign. We see this in the natural. If we do well in our job for example, we may get a promotion and pay increase and more responsibility. See here the reward and the work are one and the same. Lord willing, I will pick up right here tomorrow.
