Greetings dear and precious friends and saints and welcome back to this teaching from 1st John. Teaching from the “little Johns” has been on my mind for some time and now the Lord has pulled the trigger. Please take a moment and share this, and all other teachings, as widely as possible by every means available to you. Thank you so much for sharing. The Lord is so good, to give us His Word, to shine light on His abundant path for our lives. Before I move to our primary Bible text, let me remind you all of two things. Now let’s turn our full attention to our primary Bible text for today. Are you reading out loud? Yes, out loud, you know why.
1 John 1:5-10 (KJV)
5 This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.
6 If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth:
7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.
8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.
As I move into verse seven of our text, let me remind us, that He is talking to us, Christians. Let’s also do a very quick review of verse six and the walking in darkness, lying, and not doing the Truth which means we are not walking in love (agapē). The first mention of darkness is Genesis 1:2 and the second is in Genesis 1:5 meaning misery, destruction, death, ignorance, sorrow, or wickedness. Let me be clear, the presence of these things in our lives, not threatening but in, means we are lying about our fellowship with the Lord (perhaps in ignorance) and we are not doing the Truth which means we are not walking in love. We would all do well to meditate upon this.
Now, verse seven. Notice the word “if”, it is one of the biggest words in Scripture. Our Lord (all three persons of God) is walking in the light. The question is this; are we walking (you and me) walking in the light? Or, perhaps we are partaking of the tree of the knowledge of good (light) and evil (darkness). Are we mixing and matching depending on the day of the week and our perception of the circumstances and emotional state? In order to be walking with God, the Jesus, we must be in the light, not one foot in and one out, as He is in the light. Listen to God speak through the Prophet Amos.

What is that last phrase of this verse seven all about?
