I HAVE RAISED HIM UP
Greetings dear and precious saints of God and welcome back to another edition of my Bible teaching from the wonderful Book of Isaiah. The Lord is so good to give us a lamp unto our feet which is the Word of God. Please take a moment to share this Bible teaching as widely as possible by every means available to you. Thank you for sharing. The featured picture today is provided by a wonderful man of God, Joe Getchell Jr. The picture of geese was taken in the spring when the river in Pittsfield Maine was at flood stage. Thank you, Joe, for the beautiful pictures.
Now, let’s turn our attention to our primary Bible text in the Book of Isaiah continuing to read out loud.
Isaiah 45:11-14 (KJV)
11 Thus saith the LORD, the Holy One of Israel, and his Maker, Ask me of things to come concerning my sons, and concerning the work of my hands command ye me.
12 I have made the earth, and created man upon it: I, even my hands, have stretched out the heavens, and all their host have I commanded.
13 I have raised him up in righteousness, and I will direct all his ways: he shall build my city, and he shall let go my captives, not for price nor reward, saith the LORD of hosts.
14 Thus saith the LORD, The labour of Egypt, and merchandise of Ethiopia and of the Sabeans, men of stature, shall come over unto thee, and they shall be thine: they shall come after thee; in chains they shall come over, and they shall fall down unto thee, they shall make supplication unto thee, saying, Surely God is in thee; and there is none else, there is no God.
Who is the “him” in the thirteenth verse? It is Cyrus who is still a couple of hundred years away. See this verse in the New Living Translation.
Isaiah 45:13 (NLT)
13 I will raise up Cyrus to fulfill my righteous purpose, and I will guide his actions. He will restore my city and free my captive people— without seeking a reward! I, the LORD of Heaven’s Armies, have spoken!”
Ezra 1:1-2 (KJV)
1 Now in the first year of Cyrus king of Persia, that the word of the LORD by the mouth of Jeremiah might be fulfilled, the LORD stirred up the spirit of Cyrus king of Persia, that he made a proclamation throughout all his kingdom, and put it also in writing, saying,
2 Thus saith Cyrus king of Persia, The LORD God of heaven hath given me all the kingdoms of the earth; and he hath charged me to build him an house at Jerusalem, which is in Judah.
Many peoples were released by Cyrus King of Persia to return to Judah, and to Jerusalem. Zerubbabel was apparently the one in charge of rebuilding the Temple. Later Nehamiah would be commissioned to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem.
Ezra 2:1-2 (KJV)
1 Now these are the children of the province that went up out of the captivity, of those which had been carried away, whom Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon had carried away unto Babylon, and came again unto Jerusalem and Judah, every one unto his city;
2 Which came with Zerubbabel: Jeshua, Nehemiah, Seraiah, Reelaiah, Mordecai, Bilshan, Mispar, Bigvai, Rehum, Baanah. The number of the men of the people of Israel:
God refers to Jerusalem as “my city” and indeed it is the city of God. Who is the “LORD of hosts”? The short answer is that the LORD of hosts is Jesus the Christ, known as The Word in the Old Testament. Here is an example.
Genesis 15:1 (KJV)
- After these things the word of the LORD came unto Abram in a vision, saying, Fear not, Abram: I am thy shield, and thy exceeding great reward.
Revelation 19:11-14 (KJV)
11 And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war.
12 His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself.
13 And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God.
14 And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean.
This is Jesus “the LORD of hosts” with us following ascending to the earth for the battle of Armageddon and to establish the one-thousand-year reign of Christ upon this present earth.
Lord willing, I will pick up right here tomorrow.

2 Chronicles 20:20 b (KJV)
20 … Believe in the LORD your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper.
Ecclesiastes 12:13-14 (KJV)
13 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.
14 For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.
