Greetings dear friends and saints of God and welcome back to this engaging study of the Bible Book of Isaiah. If you are not a saint become one right now, believe in your heart that the Father raised Jesus from the dead and confess with your mouth that He is Lord (one of highest authority in ALL arenas of your life). Please take a moment and share this teaching as widely as possible by every means available to you. Thank you for sharing. The featured picture is to remind us all to pray for the seven pillars (gates, mountains, spheres of influence) of society. This must be a part of our prayer routine but not routine if you know what I mean.
Matthew 6:6-7 (ESV)
6 But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.
7 “And when you pray, do not heap up empty phrases as the Gentiles do, for they think that they will be heard for their many words.
Ask the Lord from time to time, how should I pray?
Now, let’s turn our attention, continuing to read out loud, to our primary Bible text in the wonderful Book of Isaiah. Today the text is presented in the English Standard Version. This version of the Bible is a word for word translation, published in 2001, at an 8th grade reading level. For your information Rose Publishing produces many wonderful tools and among them is a pamphlet titled “Bible Translations Comparison”.
Isaiah 48:1-5 (ESV)
1 Hear this, O house of Jacob, who are called by the name of Israel, and who came from the waters of Judah, who swear by the name of the LORD and confess the God of Israel, but not in truth or right.
2 For they call themselves after the holy city, and stay themselves on the God of Israel; the LORD of hosts is his name.
3 “The former things I declared of old; they went out from my mouth, and I announced them; then suddenly I did them, and they came to pass.
4 Because I know that you are obstinate, and your neck is an iron sinew and your forehead brass,
5 I declared them to you from of old, before they came to pass I announced them to you, lest you should say, ‘My idol did them, my carved image and my metal image commanded them.’
Just as the Lord spoke to His people through the Prophet Isaiah so He is speaking to us through the same Prophet, through our own study, the Holy Spirit, through other people in our lives, and through the various ministers given to us, especially the Pastor. Look especially at verse four of our text. Let each of us be sure He is not saying this about us. Do any of you want to be known like this people as obstinate, stiff-necked, and having a forehead of brass. Oh Lord search me and help me to submit all of me under your Hand.
