THE DAYS ARE COMING

Greetings dear and precious friends and partners and welcome back to our Bible Study of the Book of Isaiah. What a wonderful Book with an unmistakable message of warning and unrivaled hope. The warning has to do with the grave consequences of sin. The hope is the coming Messiah who has come, paid the ransom, and is now seated at the Right Hand of our Heavenly Father. Jesus, the Messiah, is forever our intercessor, advocate, and our High Priest. As we move forward, please take a moment and share this teaching as widely as possible by every means available to you. Thank you so much for sharing. The featured picture today is of the Governor’s Mansion in Hawaii to remind us to pray for those in authority.
1 Timothy 2:1-4 (AMP)
1 FIRST OF all, then, I admonish and urge that petitions, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be offered on behalf of all men,
2 For kings and all who are in positions of authority or high responsibility, that [outwardly] we may pass a quiet and undisturbed life [and inwardly] a peaceable one in all godliness and reverence and seriousness in every way.
3 For such [praying] is good and right, and [it is] pleasing and acceptable to God our Savior,
4 Who wishes all men to be saved and [increasingly] to perceive and recognize and discern and know precisely and correctly the [divine] Truth.
I also want to remind us all that beyond praying for those of authority we are to honor and obey them as well.
1 Peter 2:13-14 (TLB)
13 For the Lord’s sake, obey every law of your government: those of the king as head of the state,
14 and those of the king’s officers, for he has sent them to punish all who do wrong, and to honor those who do right.
The exception is if they ask us to violate God’s moral laws. Remember Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego who would not violate the first of the Ten Commandments and worship another god.
Daniel 3:18 (KJV)
18 But if not, be it known unto thee, O king, that we will not serve thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou hast set up.
Now, let’s turn our attention to our text in Isaiah continuing to read out loud.
Isaiah 39:4-8 (AMP)
4 Then Isaiah said, What have they seen in your house? And Hezekiah answered, They have seen all that is in my house; there is nothing among my treasures that I have not shown them.
5 Then said Isaiah to Hezekiah, Hear the word of the Lord of hosts:
6 Behold, the days are coming when all that is in your house, and that which your predecessors have stored up till this day, shall be carried to Babylon. Nothing shall be left, says the Lord.
7 And some of your own sons who are born to you shall be taken away, and they shall be eunuchs in the palace of the king of Babylon.
8 Then said Hezekiah to Isaiah, The word of the Lord which you have spoken is good. And he added, For there will be peace and faithfulness [to His promises to us] in my days.
You will recall that Judah was conquered by the Assyrians led by King Sennacherib and were at the gates of Jerusalem. In the midst of this King Hezekiah of Judah and Jerusalem became sick unto death and in fact Isaiah prophesied he would die. We came to understand that King Hezekiah had a pride issue which brought judgement upon himself, Jerusalem, and Judah. He repents of his pride, God gives him fifteen more years, and King Sennacherib’s army is decimated in one night (185,000 dead) by the angel of the Lord.
Now we find that King Hezekiah is succumbing once again to pride. This time without remedy. He is showing off to an enemy. The Lord through the Prophet Isaiah tells King Hezekiah that these folks from Babylon are not friends. The day is coming when they will carry off all his stuff including his sons who will be made eunuchs (a male without seed by way of castration) in the Palace of the King of Babylon. Verse eight really gives us tremendous insight into the character of King Hezekiah. Although he did many things right in the sight of God, in the end, it was all about him. No repentance this time since it was not to impact him.
Isaiah 39:8 (TLB)
8 “All right,” Hezekiah replied. “Whatever the Lord says is good. At least there will be peace during my lifetime!”
