Welcome saint and sinner alike to this exciting and enlightening teaching of the Kingdom of God. This is number one-hundred and sixteen and it is not old nor boring. Teaching and demonstrating the Kingdom of God was the main thrust of Jesus’ Ministry in the earth. When He sent out the disciples and the seventy, they were to teach the Kingdom of God and heal all manner of sickness. What do you suppose we are to be doing today? Let’s again turn to our anchor Scripture for guidance.
Matthew 6:33 (ESV)
33 But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.
Again, did you notice this is a command? Our highest and first priority is to seek the Kingdom of God which is righteous, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit. We are to model Gods’ standards as we walk in Bible peace and joy. I want to resume where I left off Sunday the 30th of November. Before Jesus ascended to the right hand of the Father He spent 40 days (40 is the number of testing) instructing the original twelve (minus Judas) about the Kingdom of God and the coming of the Promise of the Father which is the Holy Spirit. The Promise of the Father was One who would take the place of Jesus on the earth.
John 14:15-17 (KJV)
15 If ye love me, keep my commandments.
16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;
17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.
These disciples had a measure of the Holy Spirit, an Anointed imparted by Jesus when He had sent them out. This Anointing was the same as others received for specific purposes before the Day of Pentecost. They however did not have the Holy Spirit within for they were not born again, their spirit man was dead. The Holy Spirit communicates with our spirit and with our conscience at and following salvation. He presents us to the Father just like Jesus. We have the righteousness of Christ, just as He is today at the right hand of the Father so are we today in the earth. Jesus took our sin in His body, paid the price, and therefore it would be unjust to hold our sin against us when the debt of sin has been paid. Perhaps you are thinking, what does this have to do with the Kingdom of God. Well, this is a central message of the Kingdom. Consider the very first thing Jesus spoke of at the start of His Ministry (Isaiah 61, Luke 4). Salvation and life in the Kingdom is really good news.
Luke 24:46-49 (ESV)
46 and said to them, “Thus it is written, that the Christ should suffer and on the third day rise from the dead,
47 and that repentance and forgiveness of sins should be proclaimed in his name to all nations, beginning from Jerusalem.
48 You are witnesses of these things.
49 And behold, I am sending the promise of my Father upon you. But stay in the city until you are clothed with power from on high.”
I want to again point out that Jesus emphasized Power with the baptism of the Holy Spirit not tongues. I am not attacking tongues it is vital in the life of the believer. Power is available to carry out our assignments in the earth and tongues is a more private thing for getting direction from God and praying when we know not how to pray. What has happened in the Church is that tongues (the prayer language received when baptized in the Holy Spirit, not the gift of the Spirit of tongues) has been emphasized and much of the Church is powerless. The Apostle Paul dealt with this in the Church at Corinth and it still needs to be dealt with.
TAKE HOME:
- The Kingdom of God is the good news that our sin has been dealt with, we again have the authority not just to resist the demons but trample on them and command them. It is also a message of being Anointed with the very Power of God which flows in accordance with the words of our mouth according to His will.
- Jesus emphasized receiving Power (return of the blessing to the individual as in the beginning) but the Church has emphasized tongues and for the most part is powerless.
- There are two types of tongues, one is a gift of the Spirit, and the other is what is commonly referred to as our prayer language. I am referring to the prayer language which is also what you see on the Day of Pentecost. This is primarily for our prayer closet to hear from the Lord and to pray when we don’t know how to pray.
Lord willing, I will resume right here tomorrow. Remember, we love you, the Lord loves you, and there is nothing you can do about either one.
