BEAUTY FOR ASHES
Video link: https://youtu.be/_4RtJcPAqO0
Greetings dear and precious saints and those who will soon be saints and welcome back to this exciting study of the Bible Book of Isaiah. What a wonderful Lord we serve with willing hearts. When I look back at my days of rebellion, I think how foolish, but when the evil one has you in his grip you think sin and darkness are fun and desirable. Thank you, Father, Jesus, and Holy Spirit, for your mercy, compassion, and patience with me. The featured picture today is of a beautiful Church in Wyoming. The purpose of these Church pictures is to remind us to intercede for each other and the Church at large.
Ephesians 6:18 (NKJV)
18 praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints—
Now, let’s turn our attention to our primary Bible text in the instructive, Prophetic, and Messianic Bible Book of Isaiah.
Isaiah 61:3-5 (NKJV)
3 To console those who mourn in Zion, To give them beauty for ashes, The oil of joy for mourning, The garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; That they may be called trees of righteousness, The planting of the LORD, that He may be glorified.”
4 And they shall rebuild the old ruins, They shall raise up the former desolations, And they shall repair the ruined cities, The desolations of many generations.
5 Strangers shall stand and feed your flocks, And the sons of the foreigner Shall be your plowmen and your vinedressers.
The third verse of our primary Bible text instructs (commands) us to consider those who are mourning the Church. Short term mourning is human (of the flesh), long-term mourning (grief, sorrow) is evil. Jesus has taken our griefs and sorrows; we are not equipped to handle them. It is sin to persist in griefs and sorrows.
Isaiah 53:4-5 (KJV)
4 Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.
5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.
A person walking carrying griefs and sorrows does not glorify God and is not a planting of the Lord but of our spiritual enemies. These things are of the mind and therefore we need a renewing of the mind to the ways, the Word, of God. We must insist that those in this state cast off their sack cloth and ashes and put on with their speech their beauty in Christ Jesus. Beauty is a characteristic of God not unattractiveness! God has no ugly children!
Song of Songs 4:7 (KJV)
7 Thou art all fair, my love; there is no spot in thee.
Psalm 139:14 (KJV)
14 I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.
No where are we told that mourning is honorable or Godly (except very briefly in the repentance of and the turning from sin) but we are commanded to rejoice.
Philippians 4:4 (KJV)
4 Rejoice in the Lord alway: and again I say, Rejoice.
We are to cultivate joy, a fruit of the spirit, mourning is not a fruit of the spirit but a work of the flesh. Praise, praising the Lord is a sure antidote for mourning. There is no righteousness in mourning but rejoicing in the Lord restores right standing and restores us to acting like our Heavenly Father. Beauty, joy, praise, and righteousness are of God, mourning is evil.
Lord willing, I will pick up right here next week. Remember, we love you, the Lord loves you, and there is nothing you can do about either one.
