IMMUTABLE – PART ONE
Video link: https://youtu.be/wBWgNe_Qn24
Greetings precious, Blood bought and cleansed saints of God and welcome back to our Sunday Bible Study. Today I will be delving into the Blood Covenant Joshua made with the Gibeonites.
By the way, the title of this study is one of the essential characteristics of a Blood Covenant, really in many aspects any Covenant (Testament, Contract, League). The online dictionary gives the following definition, synonyms, and antonym. unchanging over time or unable to be changed. Synonyms of immutable are unchangeable, fixed, set, rigid, inflexible, unyielding, unbending, permanent, entrenched, established, well established, unshakeable, irremovable, indelible, ineradicable, unchanging, unchanged, changeless, unvarying, unvaried, undeviating, static, constant, lasting, abiding, enduring, persistent, or perpetual. The antonym is variable.
Hopefully, the idea is firmly established in our thinking that a Blood Covenant is unchanging and forever (eternity). Now, don’t get the idea that it can’t be violated by choice and bring about devastating consequences as we will see in Scripture. You and I entered into Blood Covenant with God at salvation through the Blood of Jesus. One of the consequences of violating Blood Covenant is death.
Romans 6:22-23 (KJV)
22 But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life.
23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
And in Hebrews.
Hebrews 10:26-29 (KJV)
26 For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins,
27 But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries.
28 He that despised Moses’ law died without mercy under two or three witnesses:
29 Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace?
Passages like this should make us walk very circumspectly before the Lord. Before I end for today, what about the Gibeonites? These were descendants of Noah’s son Ham and inhabited the area in and around Jerusalem. They had heard about Joshua and the Israelites and what they had done at Jericho and Ai. They conspired and by deception were successful in establishing a Blood Covenant with Israel.
Joshua 9:15 (KJV)
15 And Joshua made peace with them, and made a league with them, to let them live: and the princes of the congregation sware unto them.
Lord willing, I will pick up this study right here next Sunday. Remember, we love you, the Lord loves you, and there is nothing you can do about either one.
