DIVIDE THE SPOIL WITH THE STRONG
Video link: https://youtu.be/LKClLWsAObE
Greetings to all and welcome back to this beautiful Bible Study of the Book of Isaiah. Today is my sweetheart’s birthday! Happy Birthday Donna Marie! I am forbidden to discuss any further details about her birthday. Please take a moment and share this teaching as widely as possible by every means available to you. Thank you so much for sharing, for enlarging our reach with the Truth. We recognize that you value these teaching and believe other could benefit and value them as well.
Now, let’s turn our attention to our primary Bible text continuing to read out loud, yes, out loud, from the 53rd chapter of Isaiah.
Isaiah 53:10-12 (KJV)
10 Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in his hand.
11 He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities.
12 Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he hath poured out his soul unto death: and he was numbered with the transgressors; and he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.
As we transition from verse 11 to 12 the Father is telling us that “my righteous servant” will put many in right standing. Were those ones God choose out from among many or those who choose God? Now, let’s give some attention to the first part of the 12th verse and a dividing of spoil “because he hath poured out his soul unto death”. The use of the word “soul” here is a little difficult to nail down but appears to be referring (in this case) to the body and spirit of Jesus. They are what was poured out in death. The soul as in the mind, will, emotions, intellect, and perhaps the conscience, never dies like the body or spirit. When an enemy is vanquished, completely destroyed all that they controlled goes to the victor.
Colossians 2:13-15 (ESV)
13 And you, who were dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses,
14 by canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This he set aside, nailing it to the cross.
15 He disarmed the rulers and authorities and put them to open shame, by triumphing over them in him.
O thank you Jesus! He paid the penalty of our sin and even now is interceding with our Heavenly Father on our behalf. What about those who have not yet come to Him or perhaps will never come to Him? Yes, I believe He is interceding for them as well, to hold back the wrath of the Father, and the full brunt of the reaping for their sins. We have a merciful God who does not want anyone to perish now or later. Let’s look at a different translation to help us bring forward some clarity.
Isaiah 53:12 (HCSB)
12 Therefore I will give Him the many as a portion, and He will receive the mighty as spoil, because He submitted Himself to death, and was counted among the rebels; yet He bore the sin of many and interceded for the rebels.
Who is the Him? It is Christ Jesus. Who are the many? You and me dear ones! Now who are the mighty? This translation seems to say that Jesus will receive the mighty as spoil however looking back at the KJV it appears that He shares the spoils with the mighty. The mighty are among the body of Christ. Here is where we see the idea of being a joint heir come into view. The thing is this, it does not appear that everyone shares in the spoils. The spoils are what is gained from victory. This includes salvation, health and healing, prosperity of every type including financial. This brings to mind the following verse.
3 John 1:2 (KJV)
2 Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.
As we can see from our Isaiah text and this text from 3rd John not everyone in the body of Christ is prospering nor in health. We know this by observation. Who are the strong?
2 Chronicles 16:9 (KJV)
9 For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to shew himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him. Herein thou hast done foolishly: therefore from henceforth thou shalt have wars.
This phrase “whose heart is perfect toward him” is the key. This means to be completely His. Let’s ask ourselves: “Am I completely His?”
Lord willing, I will pick up right here tomorrow. Remember, the Lord is good, really good, not ever the author of stealing, killing, or destroying, and He cannot lie.

2 Chronicles 20:20 b (KJV)
20 … Believe in the LORD your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper.
Ecclesiastes 12:13-14 (KJV)
13 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.
14 For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.
