YOU WILL NOT ENTER

Greetings dear and precious saints of God and welcome back to our Bible Study of the Bible Book of Isaiah. This is not just an interesting intellectual exercise or a way to check off a religious box, this is our light, our life. Before moving forward please take a moment to share this teaching as widely as possible by every means available to you. Thank you for sharing. The featured picture today is of Donna and me during a recent outing to a new restaurant here in San Antonio called the Black Bear. Now let’s turn our attention to our primary Bible text in the Bible Book of Isaiah and continue reading out loud.
Isaiah 37:30-34 (NLT)
30 Then Isaiah said to Hezekiah, “Here is the proof that what I say is true: “This year you will eat only what grows up by itself,
and next year you will eat what springs up from that. But in the third year you will plant crops and harvest them; you will tend vineyards and eat their fruit.
31 And you who are left in Judah, who have escaped the ravages of the siege, will put roots down in your own soil and grow up and flourish.
32 For a remnant of my people will spread out from Jerusalem,
a group of survivors from Mount Zion. The passionate commitment of the LORD of Heaven’s Armies will make this happen!
33 “And this is what the LORD says about the king of Assyria:
“‘His armies will not enter Jerusalem. They will not even shoot an arrow at it. They will not march outside its gates with their shields nor build banks of earth against its walls.
34 The king will return to his own country by the same road on which he came. He will not enter this city,’ says the LORD.
As we pick up once again with verse thirty, we see the Lord speaking directly to King Hezekiah and none of it is good news for King Sennacherib of Assyria. You will recall that Assyria has conquered all of Judah with the exception of Jerusalem. The Assyrians are camped outside of Jerusalem and not in small numbers as we will see. In spite of this the Lord is saying that the Assyrians will return home in utter defeat without firing a shot so to speak. Their defeat will not come by way of King Hezekiah. Assyria has overstepped its bounds and have come into judgment themselves. In addition, they have touched Gods’ Anointed and Gods’ Covenant with His servant David (King David).
Isaiah 37:34-38 (NLT)
34 The king will return to his own country by the same road on which he came. He will not enter this city,’ says the LORD.
35 ‘For my own honor and for the sake of my servant David, I will defend this city and protect it.’”
36 That night the angel of the LORD went out to the Assyrian camp and killed 185,000 Assyrian soldiers. When the surviving Assyrians woke up the next morning, they found corpses everywhere.
37 Then King Sennacherib of Assyria broke camp and returned to his own land. He went home to his capital of Nineveh and stayed there.
38 One day while he was worshiping in the temple of his god Nisroch, his sons Adrammelech and Sharezer killed him with their swords. They then escaped to the land of Ararat, and another son, Esarhaddon, became the next king of Assyria.
Notice in verse thirty-five the reference to “my servant David”. If you do a study, you will find that God honors David and puts off judgment for David’s sake. Remember God Himself describes David as a man after His own heart, one who did all His will.
Acts 13:22 (KJV)
22 And when he had removed him, he raised up unto them David to be their king; to whom also he gave testimony, and said, I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after mine own heart, which shall fulfil all my will.
Remember the Word of the Lord earlier through Isaiah concerning the fate of King Sennacherib and Assyria itself.
Isaiah 37:6-7 (KJV)
6 And Isaiah said unto them, Thus shall ye say unto your master, Thus saith the LORD, Be not afraid of the words that thou hast heard, wherewith the servants of the king of Assyria have blasphemed me.
7 Behold, I will send a blast upon him, and he shall hear a rumour, and return to his own land; and I will cause him to fall by the sword in his own land.
Wow, one angel took out 185,000 Assyrian soldiers in one night, King Sennacherib returns home with the survivors and is then killed by two sons worshiping a false god.
