Friday – March 1, 2024, Adar Aleph 21, 5784
Greetings dear ones in Christ Jesus and welcome back to our study of 1st John. Please take a moment and share this teaching. O how fortunate we are to have the whole of the Holy Scriptures, what is called the Holy Bible. The Apostle John, the Apostle of love, did not have that, but he had three years with Jesus, and he had this.
John 14:26 (KJV)
26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.
Do we have the Bible? Do we study (not just read) the Bible? How long have we been with Jesus? Do we have the Holy Spirit as our Teacher and the One to bring all things to our remembrance?
Before we move into our primary Bible text for today be sure you are continuing to read aloud, yes, out loud. If you are benefiting from this Ministry increasing in understanding, and building your faith and love please give prayerful consideration to becoming a financial and prayer partner. Also, don’t forget my recently published book, Be Love, if you don’t have it already. It is available in softcover, e-book, and audible.

Now, let’s turn our attention to our 1st John text continuing to read aloud, yes, out loud.
1 John 2:9-12 (KJV)
9 He that saith he is in the light, and hateth his brother, is in darkness even until now.
10 He that loveth his brother abideth in the light, and there is none occasion of stumbling in him.
11 But he that hateth his brother is in darkness, and walketh in darkness, and knoweth not whither he goeth, because that darkness hath blinded his eyes.
12 I write unto you, little children, because your sins are forgiven you for his name’s sake.
The word “hateth” in verse 9 of our text goes beyond passively not liking a person and therefore not hanging out with them. This is the Greek word transliterated to English as miseō usually implying active ill will in words and conduct, a persecuting spirit towards a person according to The Complete Word Study Dictionary – New Testament. You can almost see the word misery in this word miseō. We make another’s life miserable. This is to be avoided at all costs. How long can one be in darkness and make Heaven? Let’s think on these verses.
1 John 1:6 (KJV)
6 If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth:
If we chose to walk in darkness, in this case hating or detesting a brother in Christ we are told the Truth is not in us.
Colossians 1:13 (KJV)
13 Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son:
If we persist in darkness, are we in the Kingdom of Christ?
Matthew 6:23-24 (KJV)
23 But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness!
24 No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.
Jesus didn’t switch topics and start talking about money he is talking about following after the Spirit which is life and peace or the carnal which is death. What is the antidote to hating our brother? Quit thinking, saying, and doing hateful things about or to them and confess in thought, word, and deed that you love them according to Scripture. Then bless them in some way.
Lord willing, I will pick up right here next Friday. Remember, the Lord loves you and He cannot lie.

2 Chronicles 20:20 b (KJV)
20 … Believe in the LORD your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper.
Ecclesiastes 12:13-14 (KJV)
13 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.
14 For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.
