Now let’s turn our attention to our primary Bible text from 1st John picking up with the second chapter continuing to read out loud.
1 John 2:1-6 (KJV)
1 My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:
2 And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.
3 And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments.
4 He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.
5 But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him.
6 He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked.
Last Friday we left off discussing the disciple or the Apostle of love which was John the author of this epistle. I made the point that it appears he was the only male follower, disciple/Apostle, at the Cross all the others were women. Now, there were religious folks and mockers as well as soldiers at the Cross but I am talking about those who just a few hours before were declaring their love. It seems that John walked so close to Jesus that perhaps He was born again, had a quickening of the spirit man which is where supernatural faith and love reside.
This second chapter starts with “My little children” which does not seem to be an affectionate greeting but one recognizing their immaturity. He goes on to say, I’m writing so that you not sin. Other translations us the word “may” as in may not sin, others the word “will” as in will not sin. It seems that the Apostle John recognized that sin was a choice for those receiving this epistle. That of course was true from the beginning. The woman and then Adam made a conscious choice to sin and so have every human from that time. Once we are born again, we are not doomed to sin, it is a choice, we consciously choose to sin. As I end for today listen to the Apostle James.
James 1:13-17 (KJV)
13 Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man:
14 But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.
15 Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.
16 Do not err, my beloved brethren.
17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.
Lord willing, I will pick up right here next Friday.

2 Chronicles 20:20 b (KJV)
20 … Believe in the LORD your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper.
Ecclesiastes 12:13-14 (KJV)
13 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.
14 For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.
