Now let’s turn our attention to our primary Bible text from 1st John picking up with the second chapter continuing to read out loud.
1 John 2:1-6 (KJV)
1 My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:
2 And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.
3 And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments.
4 He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.
5 But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him.
6 He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked.
Isn’t this Book of 1st John just wonderful? We are such a privileged people to have so much of Gods’ Word to guide us in the light. Yet we sin, we wander from the Truth. Are we fervent for the Truth or just want a ticket to Heaven. Listen to Jesus.
Revelation 3:15-17 (KJV)
15 I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot.
16 So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth.
17 Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked:
Is this us? Are we a Laodicean Church? Let us repent.
In verse two the Apostle John tells us that Jesus “is the propitiation for our sins”. What does that mean? Looking at the primary definition in the Greek we find the following. One who makes propitiation is an expiator according to Strong’s Talking Greek & Hebrew Dictionary. If you are like me that didn’t help a whole lot. So, what is an expiator? An expiator is one who atones for, make satisfaction or reparation for, remove or endeavor to remove the moral guilt of (a crime or evil act), or counteract its evil effects, by suffering a penalty or doing some counterbalancing good. Jesus paid the price for our sins, satisfied the debt, paid the penalty, the moral guilt is removed. We are to have no more sin consciousness.
Lord willing, I will pick up right here next Friday and Happy New Year.

2 Chronicles 20:20 b (KJV)
20 … Believe in the LORD your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper.
Ecclesiastes 12:13-14 (KJV)
13 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.
14 For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.
