Friday – March 15, 2024, Adar Bet 5, 5784
Greetings dear ones in Christ Jesus and welcome back to our study of 1st John. Please take a moment and share this teaching. O how fortunate we are to have the whole of the Holy Scriptures, what is called the Holy Bible. The Apostle John, the Apostle of love, did not have that, but he had three years with Jesus, and he had this.
John 14:26 (KJV)
26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.
Do we have the Bible? Do we study (not just read) the Bible? How long have we been with Jesus? Do we have the Holy Spirit as our Teacher and the One to bring all things to our remembrance?

Now, let’s turn our attention to our 1st John text continuing to read aloud, yes, out loud.
1 John 2:9-12 (KJV)
9 He that saith he is in the light, and hateth his brother, is in darkness even until now.
10 He that loveth his brother abideth in the light, and there is none occasion of stumbling in him.
11 But he that hateth his brother is in darkness, and walketh in darkness, and knoweth not whither he goeth, because that darkness hath blinded his eyes.
12 I write unto you, little children, because your sins are forgiven you for his name’s sake.
Last week I left off in the midst of the tenth verse of our primary text above. We talked about who a brother is and although it is a different word than neighbor it is not greatly different. Long story short, we are not to hate anyone, and love everyone. Jesus died for every person that has ever lived, the good, the bad, and the ugly. Now, the thoughts, the words, and the actions of others is an altogether different story.
Jude 1:21-24 (KJV)
21 Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.
22 And of some have compassion, making a difference:
23 And others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire; hating even the garment spotted by the flesh.
24 Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy,
You can see that our very own stability depends on keeping ourselves in the love of God (verses 21 & 24). We love the sinner, but detest the sin. Now, what about the phrase “abideth in the light”? To abide means that is where and how we live. We are to be constantly in the light and never in darkness. In darkness is where the enemy gets access to us. Darkness is his kingdom and we are not of his kingdom. Next Friday Lord willing I will deal with living in the light.
Lord willing, I will pick up right here next Friday. The Lord is good, never bad, never, and He cannot lie.
