JUDE – PART THIRTY-NINE

Greetings dear ones and welcome back to this instructive study of the Bible Book of Jude. Although this Book is short it is full of instruction for the wise.
Proverbs 9:9 (KJV)
9 Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be yet wiser: teach a just man, and he will increase in learning.
The main purpose in the mind of Jude when he sat down to write this letter (Epistle) was to impress upon them and us the importance of “earnestly” contending for and adhering to the faith (the Truth we are to believe) as it was delivered to and for us from the beginning. He goes into some detail of the dangers of not clinging to the faith as it was once delivered.
Now, let’s pick up with our primary Bible text for today. Please continue to read out loud.
Jude 1:14-16 (NIV)
14 Enoch, the seventh from Adam, prophesied about these men: “See, the Lord is coming with thousands upon thousands of his holy ones
15 to judge everyone, and to convict all the ungodly of all the ungodly acts they have done in the ungodly way, and of all the harsh words ungodly sinners have spoken against him.”
16 These men are grumblers and faultfinders; they follow their own evil desires; they boast about themselves and flatter others for their own advantage.
Do you know people like this? These are found in the pulpit and pew alike. Love them, but do not fellowship with them. Now what about Enoch? The man “Enoch, the seventh from Adam” first appears in the Book of Genesis.
Genesis 5:22-24 (KJV)
22 And Enoch walked with God after he begat Methuselah three hundred years, and begat sons and daughters:
23 And all the days of Enoch were three hundred sixty and five years:
24 And Enoch walked with God: and he was not; for God took him.
This is the first recorded testimony of a man being caught up to Heaven from the earth. We again hear about him in the faith Hall of Fame chapter.
Hebrews 11:5 (KJV)
5 By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death; and was not found, because God had translated him: for before his translation he had this testimony, that he pleased God.
Now, we know why, how, Enoch was translated to be with God in Heaven. It was by faith. That is the same way that we will be translated to Heaven one day. Recall, it is impossible to please God without Faith (Hebrews 11:6). Concerning Enoch we don’t have another witness (that I am aware of) that confirms these verses are specifically a Prophecy of Enoch. We do however have confirmation of this in part in the Books of Revelation.
Revelation 19:11 (KJV)
11 And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war.
This is just prior to the Second Coming of Christ when Jesus is ready to come and has gathered us, the saints, and the holy angels. As for the Prophecy of Enoch itself, it seems to come from the extrabiblical book of Enoch.
