1 JOHN – 3:12
DO WE LOVE GOD AND THE BRETHREN?

Greetings to all of the House of God and welcome back to these enlightening, instructive, and empowering teachings from the Book of 1st John. The Lord is so good to give us the Policy and Procedure Manual for the Kingdom of God. The Kingdom of God if you haven’t noticed is not loosey goosy but a Kingdom of laws. Obeyed these laws bring prosperity, health, safety, and eternal life. When these laws are not followed the curse enters with its attendant poverty, poor health, lack of safety, and eternal damnation. Just a note about poverty. I am not talking about life on the streets, under a bridge. When one does not have an inheritance for their children and grandchildren as well as a continual overflow in their own life to shine (Isaiah 60 & 61) and further the Kingdom of God, they are in poverty. Poverty is of the wicked one, overflowing abundance is of God. It is everywhere in Scripture. Now, let’s turn our attention to our primary Bible text continuing to read out loud.
1 John 3:11-15 (KJV)
11 For this is the message that ye heard from the beginning, that we should love one another.
12 Not as Cain, who was of that wicked one, and slew his brother. And wherefore slew he him? Because his own works were evil, and his brother’s righteous.
13 Marvel not, my brethren, if the world hate you.
14 We know that we have passed from death unto life, because we love the brethren. He that loveth not his brother abideth in death.
15 Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer: and ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him.
I left off last Friday talking about love (agapē) and loving (agapaō) one another in particular. This is the God level love that given first to Adam and rekindled, quickened, made alive, in us at salvation. This love is doing (willingly with a good attitude) the Scripture, have a selfless lifestyle, and abiding or living the Blood Covenant. As we enter verse twelve of our text the Apostle John brings a contrast with Cain who slew (murdered) his brother Able. John tells us that Cain was of the evil one. Cain was evil living contrary to the thoughts, Words, and ways of God whereas Able lived right. To live right has to do with walking as God walks, thinking the thoughts of God, talking the talk of God, and living out the Blood Covenant. Let’s take a look at the issue.
Genesis 4:3-5 (KJV)
3 And in process of time it came to pass, that Cain brought of the fruit of the ground an offering unto the LORD.
4 And Abel, he also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof. And the LORD had respect unto Abel and to his offering:
5 But unto Cain and to his offering he had not respect. And Cain was very wroth, and his countenance fell.
I have heard various conjectures as to what kind of offering was brought. It seems to me that it was either a forerunner of the annual sin offering or a first fruits offering. I think the key is in the phrase “Abel, he also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof”. The phrase “the fat thereof” tells us this was the best of his flock. We see nothing about Cain bringing the first of the fruit of the ground or the best. Bottom line, Cain loved neither God or Able.
Lord willing, I will pick up right here next Friday. Remember, we love you, the Lord loves you, and there is nothing you can do about either one.
