HE WHO SAYS, I LOVE GOD, AND HATETH HIS BROTHER IS A LIAR

Greetings dear children of our Father God. What a privilege to be a child of God, a son of God, a joint heirs with Christ, a king and priest in the Kingdom of God.
TODAY’S LIGHT:
- The Truth is the Word, Jesus, and His Spirit who directs us to the Word, to Jesus.
- Those that know the Truth will love their brothers and sisters in Christ. There is a season of Grace for ignorance but only for those studying, actively seeking the full counsel of Truth.
- Love of the brethren comes “naturally” to those who truly love (agapē/agapaō) God.
Today I will continue moving forward in our study of this wonderful Book of 2nd John. We have seen that the Apostle loves this unnamed lady and her children according to the Truth. We have learned that in one way, or another the Truth is the Word of God. We know that the Holy Spirit is called the Spirit of Truth always pointing to the Truth, which is the Word of God, which is Jesus (John 16:13-14). We also now know that not everything recorded in the Bible is the Truth, it is all true but not the Truth. Let’s read our text and move into the b portion of the first verse and who knows perhaps even further.
2 John 1:1-3 (KJV)
1 The elder unto the elect lady and her children, whom I love in the truth; and not I only, but also all they that have known the truth;
2 For the truth’s sake, which dwelleth in us, and shall be with us for ever.
3 Grace be with you, mercy, and peace, from God the Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of the Father, in truth and love.
Now the Apostle goes on to tell the elect lady and her children that not only does he love (agapē/agapaō) them in the truth but all that know the truth love them. We see here that ones who do not love the brethren either do not know the Truth or do not know Jesus. The Apostle talked about this a lot in his first epistle. Let’s look at that, it is quite sobering.
1 John 4:7-8 (KJV)
7 Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God.
8 He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.
Now, jump down to the 19th verse.
1 John 4:19-21 (KJV)
19 We love him, because he first loved us.
20 If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen?
21 And this commandment have we from him, That he who loveth God love his brother also.
I don’t know how this strikes you, but it strikes me that I need to up my game so to speak. It is easy to love, agapē/agapaō, someone from a distance but up close is another story. Remember, this divine/Godly love that we are fully capable of expressing at it core is obedience to God, to the Word of God. If we do not love our brother, we are in disobedience and therefore not walking in love with God. I know, I don’t care for it either but that’s the Truth, let’s do it.
LIGHT TO RETAIN:
