ALL WORDS ARE SPIRIT BUT NOT ALL WORDS ARE LIFE

Greetings to all and welcome back to this wonderful study of Divine love (agapē/agapaō) taken from my book “Awake, Arise, and Triumph – Be Love”. Just because I have labeled this Divine love it does not exclude the Christian from expressing this love. We can express this love just as we are capable of expressing the other fruits of the spirit. We are children of God and this love; the fruits are identical to His and originated with Him. Thus far I have offered the definition of love, really the only relational commitment that can rightly be called love. Other relationships wrongly referred to as love are levels of fondness, emotional attachment, and are transactional in nature. Sometimes other fruit of the spirit are mistaken for this love, like patience, goodness, and kindness. By way of a reminder, this Divine love (agapē/agapaō) is obedience to Scripture (all of it), selfless motivations, and abiding in Blood Covenant.
I will now continue our discussion of love and Truth. Jesus said, my words are spirit and life (John 6:63 paraphrase) therefore our words are spirit, and our words are to be life to the hearer. All words are spirit, but not all words are life. Let us not speak words of death only life edifying the hearer. The hearer may be another person or we ourselves. As we worship in spirit (our words of life) we speak the Truth which gives life, and we are a demonstration of the Godhead in our bodily form (Colossians 2:9-10). We speak as Jesus spoke in Jesus’ name, in His authority, His Power of Attorney given us. We are led of the Holy Spirit, we speak the Word, and we speak in absolute obedience to the Word of God with no regard to self (love). Like Jesus we speak only what we hear the Father say and we do only what we see the Father do, so when people have seen and heard us, they have seen and heard the Father. Now, let us look at love and Truth together.
Ephesians 4:14-15 (KJV)
14 That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;
15 But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ:
The verse of interest is verse fifteen; fifteen is the number of entering God’s rest, but first I want us to notice that verse fourteen (the number of deliverance) admonishes us not to be children because children are tossed to and fro and can be deceived. The passages bringing us to this point are about the gifts of the Apostle, Prophet, Evangelist, Pastor, and Teacher whose job it is too perfect or cause the saints to mature. Then the Holy Spirit through Paul goes on to say that we must hear the Truth in love so that we may grow up into Him in all things. We are to come to the full stature of Christ as He is now spiritually. I know this is a tall order, but do we believe the Scripture or not?
As we speak the Word, responding to the leadership of the Holy Spirit, and walk in love we grow. In order to grow we are going to hear things we did not know and things we may not like at the outset. If we receive them and do them, we will grow up into Him. Then we will not be tossed to and fro, we will not be deceived, and we will be like Him. Let me briefly recap the fifteenth verse. We are to speak the Word without selfish motives, observing the Blood Covenant, and doing the Word (not being a hypocrite). Let us examine the following verse.
3 John 1:1 (KJV)
1 The elder unto the well beloved Gaius, whom I love in the truth.
John says, I love (agapē/agapaō) Gaius in the Truth. This is not love (not love at all) based on emotion or reciprocal actions. Let us translate this a little so we get the fulness of what he is saying. My love (selfless [no hidden agenda] is an expression of my will, in accordance with the Blood Covenant, and in obedience to the Word of God) Gaius in the Truth. My relationship with Gaius is based only upon the Truth. This Truth is the Word of God, it is Jesus. I act and speak as led of the Holy Spirit, based upon the Word of God, based upon the example of Jesus, and it is based upon love (selfless [no hidden agenda] expression of my will, in accordance with the Blood Covenant, and in obedience to the Word of God).
Many times, in Scripture a thing is repeated, as in this case. This appears to be a way that God uses to put a particular emphasis on a certain point He wants to drive home. Now, you and I must work to translate this into our daily relationships. Yes, it will be work because it is the Way of God and quite contrary to our flesh, and infinitely superior to the world system. You and I are empowered by the same Holy Spirit who empowered Jesus as a man for His earthly Ministry, to always please the Father.
TAKE HOME:
- All words are spirit, but not all words are life. Let us not speak words of death only life edifying the hearer. The hearer may be another person or we ourselves.
- We must hear the Truth in love so that we may grow up into Him in all things. We are to come to the full stature of Christ as He is now spiritually. I know this is a tall order, but do we believe the Scripture or not?
- Our love (selfless [no hidden agenda] is to be an expression of our will, in accordance with the Blood Covenant, and in obedience to the Word of God which is Truth.
Lord willing, I will resume right here next week. Remember, we love you, the Lord loves you, and there is nothing you can do about either one.
