A WELL OF TRUTH
BLESSING OF ABRAHAM

Greetings dear and precious saints of God and welcome back to drawing from A Well of Truth. Today we will be looking at the Blessing of Abraham. As we prepare to dive into our teaching please take a moment and share this teaching as widely as possible by every means available to you. Thank you for sharing. Also, remember to be reading out loud. The featured picture is a well with lots of water and bucket full of water about to be drawn from that well. The water is the Word of God that gives life (zoe life) and cleanses. Let’s start this study by going to some familiar Scriptures and expand from there.
Galatians 3:13-14 (KJV)
13 Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:
14 That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.
Galatians 3:29 (KJV)
29 And if ye be Christ’s, then are ye Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.
I want to address, if I can, briefly verse thirteen and the idea, the reality of being redeemed from the law. We know that Jesus was made sin (2 Corinthians 5:21), a curse, in our place taking our sin, brokenness of disease, and punishment for sin. We commemorate this every time we take communion. His Blood was shed for our salvation, eternal life and the blotting out of all sin. His body was broken so that ours does not need to be. We know all of this yet we see the curse all around us including being rampant in the Church. So, what is the story? There is one law that Jesus did away with, all others stand and when broken bring the curse into our lives in the absence of repentance. Sin opens the door to the curse. The one law absolutely obliterated by the Cross, punishment in the heart of the earth, the Resurrection and the return of the Holy Spirit is the original law of sin and death. When Adam and Eve sinned, they died spiritually immediately, death entered the earth, and in time they died physically.
Now in Christ Jesus if we sin, we do not die spiritually. We are stilled saved just not walking with the Savior, off His good path and on the devil awful path with the door open for his stealing, killing and destroying. True repentance puts us back on the path prepared for us from the foundation of the worlds. This is clearly spelled out in Deuteronomy chapter 28, John 10:10 and many other places. Abiding in the Word of God maintains the blessing and turning aside to other words brings the curse. The curse cannot just come, we must invite the curse. I know no one consciously choses bad things (the curse) but when we sin, turn from the Truth to lies, that is the consequence. Where sin abounds so does the curse. As we have studied the last two Sundays, in order to have authority over devils/curse we must be totally submitted to God. We must be under authority to have authority over all that Jesus put under His feet. If it is under His feet, it is under us. Now that I have chased this rabbit a good ways let’s shift our attention to the blessing of Abraham.
Genesis 12:1-3 (KJV)
1 Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father’s house, unto a land that I will shew thee:
2 And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing:
3 And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.
Finally God has found a man with whom He can cut a Blood Covenant and bring redemption for all of mankind. First Abram, later Abraham, had to get away from his family. Sometimes we do as well. The Lord starts to tell him what He wants to do in his life and through him. God is telling Abram that he will be a great nation and he personally will be rich and famous. Can you imagine, at this point it is Abram and his wife Sarai who was barren. He is seventy-five and she is sixty-five. The word blessing in general means to bring prosperity and happiness in submission to God. However, it is also used as a greeting meaning you wish the person greeted prosperity and happiness. Then the Lord tells Abram that those who bless him God will see to it they are blessed but those that mess with him will reap the curse. And finally, the whole reason for this conversation; “in thee shall all families of the earth will be blessed”. We know this will happen because the Messiah will come through Abrams faith.
Lord willing, I will pick up with this next Sunday.
