NEW IDOLS

Greetings dear and precious friends, partners, and saints of God. Welcome back to our Bible Study of the Bible Book of Isaiah, now in the 41st chapter. Please take a moment and share this teaching as widely as possible by every possible means available to you, to expand our reach with these teachings. Thank you for sharing. The featured picture today is of the State of Kentucky Statehouse reminding us to pray for all in authority not just those in government. Please be sure that you are reading out loud.
1 Timothy 2:1-3 (AMP)
1 FIRST OF all, then, I admonish and urge that petitions, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be offered on behalf of all men,
2 For kings and all who are in positions of authority or high responsibility, that [outwardly] we may pass a quiet and undisturbed life [and inwardly] a peaceable one in all godliness and reverence and seriousness in every way.
3 For such [praying] is good and right, and [it is] pleasing and acceptable to God our Savior,
The word “admonish” in the first verse is telling us that we are in the wrong if we are not doing this. Not only are we to use this template in praying for those in authority (the ones we like and the ones we don’t like) but we are to honor and obey them. This is where the rub comes and is a great test for Christians.
1 Peter 2:13-17 (KJV)
13 Submit yourselves to every ordinance of man for the Lord’s sake: whether it be to the king, as supreme;
14 Or unto governors, as unto them that are sent by him for the punishment of evildoers, and for the praise of them that do well.
15 For so is the will of God, that with well doing ye may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men:
16 As free, and not using your liberty for a cloke of maliciousness, but as the servants of God.
17 Honour all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honour the king.
In recent time and even now many in the Church have confused the First Amendment of the United States Constitution for Scripture. As important as our Constitution is and much of it is based on Scripture, it is not Scripture. Now, let’s turn our attention to our primary Bible text in Isaiah and continue reading out loud.
Isaiah 41:5-9 (TLB)
5 The lands beyond the sea watch in fear and wait for word of Cyrus’ new campaigns. Remote lands tremble and mobilize for war.
6-7 The craftsmen encourage each other as they rush to make new idols to protect them. The carver hurries the goldsmith, and the molder helps at the anvil. “Good,” they say. “It’s coming along fine. Now we can solder on the arms.” Carefully they join the parts together and then fasten the thing in place so it won’t fall over!
8 “But as for you, O Israel, you are mine, my chosen ones; for you are Abraham’s family, and he was my friend.
9 I have called you back from the ends of the earth and said that you must serve but me alone, for I have chosen you and will not throw you away.
Last Thursday I made mention of the name Cyrus in verse five above and that he does not come on the scene for another 100 years. This is the only translation of the Bible I looked at that mentions Cyrus in this verse and indicates it is implied. Cyrus, a King of Persia to come, is mention in Isaiah, but not for another few chapters. Verses six and seven tell us of the rush to develop new idols for protection. Remember an idol, a false god, is anyone, anything, or any activity that one puts ahead of or puts primary reliance on in the place of God.
As we now focus on verses eight and nine we see the Lord telling His people they are His, they must serve Him and Him alone. He says, “I have chosen you and will not throw you away”. We see here what we have seen before. Remember He told Hezekiah that He (God) was showing mercy to him at least in part due to his servant David. Here we see it is because of Abraham who was a friend of God. I do not believe He is talking about those who are natural blood Jews but all in the family of God by way of the Seed of Abraham, Jesus the Messiah.
Galatians 3:29 (TLB)
29 And now that we are Christ’s we are the true descendants of Abraham, and all of God’s promises to him belong to us.
Lord willing, I will pick up right here tomorrow.

PRAYERS AND QUESTIONS – please contact us and we will respond. Our goal is to build a solid foundation upon which children of God can become sons of God, stand and do exploits in Jesus’ name.
PARTNERSHIP AND GIVING – Those of you who are not Partners of this Ministry and you find this ministry to be of value to you and perhaps others with whom you share it, we ask you to consider becoming Partners. A Partner is one who prays for the Ministry on a regular basis and contributes to the Ministry on a regular basis (monthly, quarterly, annually).
