DON’T LISTEN

Greetings dear and precious children of God and welcome back to our Bible Study of the Bible Book of Isaiah. What a wonderful and instructive Book. Of course, we could say the same about the other sixty-five Books of the Bible as well. Our Bible is a Book of life. This Bible is not just life for later, now and forever. Don’t buy into that poverty and suffering teaching that seems so popular, it is not Bible. That is not to say that Christians won’t have great challenges. The Truth is this. Christ conquered and we need only occupy keeping our spiritual enemies under our feet in the name of Jesus. Children of God suffer defeats due to ignorance and unbelief. We can be lazy and not study to rightly divide the Word. The Word of God, the Truth, received, believed and acted upon is nothing but victory and nothing but increase. Many believe the wrong things (doctrines of demons, traditions of men). Subsequently they are not seeing the promises manifest but in spite of that don’t find out why and change, renew their minds, to the Truth. By the way these wrong ideas are commonly taught right in Church giving them a religious flare. We tend to receive them without testing them, that is to say, where are the other witnesses. Saying it loud, with emotion, and often does not make it right. Please take a moment to share this teaching as widely as possible by every means available to you greatly expanding our reach. Thank you for sharing. The featured picture is a reminder for us to pray for our brothers and sisters in Christ.
Ephesians 6:18 (NJB)
18 In all your prayer and entreaty keep praying in the Spirit on every possible occasion. Never get tired of staying awake to pray for all God’s holy people,
Now, let’s turn our attention to our primary Bible text in the Book of Isaiah continuing to read out loud.
Isaiah 36:16-18 (NLT)
16 “Don’t listen to Hezekiah! These are the terms the king of Assyria is offering: Make peace with me—open the gates and come out. Then each of you can continue eating from your own grapevine and fig tree and drinking from your own well.
17 Then I will arrange to take you to another land like this one—a land of grain and new wine, bread and vineyards.
18 “Don’t let Hezekiah mislead you by saying, ‘The LORD will rescue us!’ Have the gods of any other nations ever saved their people from the king of Assyria?
The King of Assyria is now laying out the terms of surrender. You can stay in your home, well not long, we are taking you to another place but it will be like here (really?). Finally, he goes on to flat out tell them, the Lord is just not going to take care of you but we will. Ever heard any of this before? After all look at our record, we have conquered everyone and their gods were of no help what makes you think yours will help? Does the devil say that to you? Perhaps the demons have said; “Look around, all your friends are poor and sick, just the way it is in the Kingdom, things will be better over there”. Perhaps like in verse 18 the demons have said; “don’t let this preacher mislead you, just look around and see how it really is”. Let’s proceed a little further in this chapter before I end for today.
Isaiah 36:18-22 (NLT)
18 “Don’t let Hezekiah mislead you by saying, ‘The LORD will rescue us!’ Have the gods of any other nations ever saved their people from the king of Assyria?
19 What happened to the gods of Hamath and Arpad? And what about the gods of Sepharvaim? Did any god rescue Samaria from my power?
20 What god of any nation has ever been able to save its people from my power? So what makes you think that the LORD can rescue Jerusalem from me?”
21 But the people were silent and did not utter a word because Hezekiah had commanded them, “Do not answer him.”
22 Then Eliakim son of Hilkiah, the palace administrator; Shebna the court secretary; and Joah son of Asaph, the royal historian, went back to Hezekiah. They tore their clothes in despair, and they went in to see the king and told him what the Assyrian chief of staff had said.
The Assyrian chief of staff just like the demons that approach you and me daily, hourly, will point out our past failures or the failures of those around us. The kings’ men are in despair but as we will see, in spite of how hopeless the situation appears, he knows where to go, to whom to go.
