GIFTS OF THE SPIRIT – PART FOUR
Greetings dear and precious friends and partners of this Ministry and The Three Minute Word blog. Please take a moment to share this teaching to expand the reach of this Ministry, the Truth. You have joined the Friday teaching series titled “Gifts” and I am currently dealing with the nine gifts of the Holy Spirit. According to the Smart Lookup Dictionary a gift is a thing given willingly to someone without payment; a present. We have not earned nor in any other way made a payment for any gift from God. God gives them willingly to us without payment of any kind.
The first, foundational, and essential gift for all others is eternal life otherwise known as being born again or being saved. Eternal life is being connected to God and living a God kind of life eternally. That is not to say we are or ever attain to God status but that we are family and share in His divine nature and His lifestyle. How could one ever suppose to pay for something like eternal life anyway? The devil(s) do not have eternal life to give and neither does any other person have eternal life to give. Eternal life comes from one source only, and that is God, the only living God. Before salvation, before naming Jesus as our Lord and believing the Father raised Him from the dead, we are spiritually dead and destined to eternal separation from God and Hell. At salvation we are made by the Holy Spirit spiritually alive, unified with God (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit), and are in a marriage Covenant with the Son. Jesus is the Groom and we (the Church) are the bride of Christ. At salvation we are ready to receive the Baptism of the Holy Spirit evidenced by speaking in tongues and receive gifts of the Spirit as the Lord wills.
Acts 2:4 (KJV)
4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
With and following the baptism of the Holy Spirit we are ready and have the capacity to function in the gifts of the Holy Spirit. Let’s listen to what the Lord has to say to us through the Apostle Paul.
1 Corinthians 12:4-7 (CJB)
4 Now there are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit gives them.
5 Also there are different ways of serving, but it is the same Lord being served.
6 And there are different modes of working, but it is the same God working them all in everyone.
7 Moreover, to each person is given the particular manifestation of the Spirit that will be for the common good.
We are told there are different kinds of gifts but all from the same Holy Spirit. He points out that the same gift operating in one person may not appear the same in another but it is valid and the same God, the same Holy Spirit. Furthermore, we find that these gifts are given and are to function among the saints for the common good. Now, let’s start to take a look at these gifts of the Holy Spirit.
1 Corinthians 12:8-11 (KJV)
8 For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit;
9 To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit;
10 To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues:
11 But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will.
In verse eleven we are again told that although these gifts may look very different from one another they work by one Spirit and one Spirit only and that is the Holy Spirit. Initially the Holy Spirit decides according to His will which gift or gifts to impart. I suspect He (Holy Spirit) imparts what is needed in the Church. As we will see over time as we study this topic that we may acquire more gifts than the one(s) initially given. Take a look at the eleventh verse in the Complete Jewish Bible.
1 Corinthians 12:11 (CJB)
11 One and the same Spirit is at work in all these things, distributing to each person as he chooses.
You may have heard that these nine gifts are placed by men (people) into three broad categories. In no particular ranking, first there are the knowledge gifts which are the Word of Wisdom, the Word of Knowledge, and discerning of spirits. Second are the speaking gifts which are Prophecy, divers’ kinds of Tongues, and the interpretation of tongues. Thirdly are the power gifts which are the gift of faith, gift of healing, and the gift of working miracles. Lord willing, I will pick up right here next Friday.
2 Chronicles 20:20b (KJV)
20 … Believe in the LORD your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper.
Until our next publication, as a Bible Teacher and Prophetic Voice I speak this blessing over each and every one of you, receive it, believe it, and speak over yourself and your family by faith in Jesus name! Quit asking God to bless you, you are already blessed, you have the Blessing, give Him something to do by the words of your mouth. Once you know the will of God, decree the thing (Job 22:28, Isaiah 45:11, Mark 11:23). (The Blessing is the Holy Spirit) We have left God way to long with nothing to do in our lives.
Numbers 6:24-26 (AMP)
24 The Lord bless you and watch, guard, and keep you;
25 The Lord make His face to shine upon and enlighten you and be gracious (kind, merciful, and giving favor) to you;
26 The Lord lift up His [approving] countenance upon you and give you peace (tranquility of heart and life continually).
