Greetings dear and precious saints purchased by the incalculable Precious Blood of Jesus. Welcome back to our enlightening study of the wonderful Bible Book of Isaiah. Please take a moment and share this teaching as widely as possible by every means available to you. Thank you for sharing. I am puzzled by those of you who follow these teachings regularly yet don’t share?? If you’re just skating by and wondering who David Wood is don’t worry about it (don’t worry period). The picture today is provided by Joe Getchell Jr, a wonderful man of God, and one who takes wonderfully beautiful pictures. Also, never forget to pray for Israel, it is a command of our God (Psalm 122:6-9) not a holy suggestion.
Now, let’s turn our attention to our primary Bible text in the wonderful Book of Isaiah and continue reading our loud. Yes, out loud, you know why.
Isaiah 52:1-5 (NLT)
1 Wake up, wake up, O Zion! Clothe yourself with strength.
Put on your beautiful clothes, O holy city of Jerusalem, for unclean and godless people will enter your gates no longer.
2 Rise from the dust, O Jerusalem. Sit in a place of honor.
Remove the chains of slavery from your neck, O captive daughter of Zion.
3 For this is what the LORD says: “When I sold you into exile,
I received no payment. Now I can redeem you without having to pay for you.”
4 This is what the Sovereign LORD says: “Long ago my people chose to live in Egypt. Now they are oppressed by Assyria.
5 What is this?” asks the LORD. “Why are my people enslaved again? Those who rule them shout in exultation. My name is blasphemed all day long.
Today we move into verse three. On the surface it causes one (at least me) to make a funny face. The Lord sold them but no money or anything else of value was received by God, and now He is redeeming them and not paying a dime. Let’s look at a couple of other translations to get further insight. God does not allow one to go into bondage without a reason, or a cause.
Proverbs 26:2 (KJV)
2 As the bird by wandering, as the swallow by flying, so the curse causeless shall not come.
God did not one day just decide it was a good idea for the Assyrians to come in and ravage His people. His people turned to the same kingdom that the Assyrians served, the kingdom of darkness. They turned to other gods. At a minimum they turned their back to at least the first two commandments.
Deuteronomy 5:6-10 (KJV)
6 I am the LORD thy God, which brought thee out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage.
7 Thou shalt have none other gods before me.
8 Thou shalt not make thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the waters beneath the earth:
9 Thou shalt not bow down thyself unto them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me,
10 And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me and keep my commandments. (Bold added)
Did you notice that having other gods brings a curse not only on the individual and those around them, but it can spread to the third and fourth generations after them. This does not mean that the children to the third and fourth generation are guilty of the sins of the fathers (and mothers) but they are predisposed to the very same choices genetically. Here is the good news, a predisposition is not a destiny. This includes predispositions for example to be an alcoholic, smoker, develop cancer and so on. Your thoughts and words will determine if you develop these destinies or of you avoid them. As I end for today, let’s look at verse three in the KJV for further clarity.
Isaiah 52:3 (KJV)
3 For thus saith the LORD, Ye have sold yourselves for nought; and ye shall be redeemed without money.
So, who sold them? They themselves by turning aside from the Words of God to other words. Money won’t get them back only their turning to God with a whole heart.
Lord willing, I will pick up right here tomorrow. Remember the Lord is good, nothing but good, and He cannot lie.
By: Dr. David R. Wood, Bible Teacher, and Prophetic Voice
2 Chronicles 20:20 b (KJV)
20 … Believe in the LORD your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper.
Ecclesiastes 12:13-14 (KJV)
13 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.
14 For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.
