DO YOU LACK ANYTHING?

Welcome back to our study of the Kingdom of God, part one hundred and eleven. Teaching about, describing, and demonstrating the Kingdom of God in the earth was a major part of Jesus’ earthly Ministry. Perhaps we can learn from that and do as He did. Doing as He did, and even greater things is another command given to Christians.
John 14:12 (ESV)
12 “Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I am going to the Father.
Jesus has gone on to Heaven, gone to the Father and we are here to do the work of the Ministry, the Kingdom of God. Jesus is not doing stuff from Heaven, the Holy Spirit with and in us is doing stuff in and through us. As we are about the business of the Kingdom the natural things of life will flow to us. Now, let’s look at our anchor Scripture and a few surrounding verses.
Matthew 6:31-34 (ESV)
31 Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’
32 For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all.
33 But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.
34 “Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.
We see that Jesus is talking to them and us about the natural things necessary in our lives. He then tells them that if they will follow the command to “seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness” these things will flow to them. That does not mean they or we won’t have a part, but it does mean that with the commanded focus it won’t be hard. The right focus is seeking after, putting the Kingdom of God, righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit first and Heaven’s way of doing things our way. Let’s look at what Jesus had to say about the Kingdom and if they lacked anything.
Luke 22:28-30 (ESV)
28 “You are those who have stayed with me in my trials,
29 and I assign to you, as my Father assigned to me, a kingdom,
30 that you may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom and sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel.
This is just before the Cross. They had been with Him for some three years and faced challenges primarily from the ruling religious class yet were unharmed. Jesus tells them that the Father is giving Him a Kingdom and likewise He is giving them a Kingdom because of their loyalty. Even though within hours they would be scattered He knew they would again be those who would stay with Him and participate in the birthing and nurturing of the infant Church. Following that at His Second Coming they would have thrones in Israel judging the twelve tribes. Then just a few verses later Jesus asks them a question.
Luke 22:35 (ESV)
35 And he said to them, “When I sent you out with no moneybag or knapsack or sandals, did you lack anything?” They said, “Nothing.”
When they went out at His instruction speaking the message of the Kingdom and healing the sick they lacked nothing. Has the will of God changed? Remember this verse?
John 3:34 (ESV)
34 For he whom God has sent utters the words of God, for he gives the Spirit without measure.
TAKE HOME:
- We are to be doing as Jesus did and even greater things.
- We are to seek first the Kingdom of God and His way of doing 24/7.
- Obedience and loyalty brings rulership in the Kingdom.
- In the will of God there is no lack.
