JUDE – PART THIRTY-SIX

Greetings dear saints of God and all pre-saints of God and welcome back to this study of the Bible Book of Jude. This Book has to do with holding to the pure Truth. The Truth was being seriously corrupted before the end of the first century AD. That is not to say that the Truths of what we call the Old Testament had not been seriously corrupted by the time Jesus entered the earth. Just look at the ruling religious leaders of the day with a form of godliness, doctrines of demons, and absolutely powerless. Many readers may be saying, not me, not my Church! Are you sure? Are the lame leaping, the deaf hearing, the blind seeing, are people delivered of bondages, and the dead being raised?

Now, let’s turn our attention to our primary Bible text in this wonderful Book of Jude. Be sure you are reading out loud.
Jude 1:10-13 (KJV)
10 But these speak evil of those things which they know not: but what they know naturally, as brute beasts, in those things they corrupt themselves.
11 Woe unto them! for they have gone in the way of Cain, and ran greedily after the error of Balaam for reward, and perished in the gainsaying of Core.
12 These are spots in your feasts of charity, when they feast with you, feeding themselves without fear: clouds they are without water, carried about of winds; trees whose fruit withereth, without fruit, twice dead, plucked up by the roots;
13 Raging waves of the sea, foaming out their own shame; wandering stars, to whom is reserved the blackness of darkness for ever.
Last Saturday I left off with verse eleven and talking about “the way of Cain”. Cain brought less then his best while his brother Abel brought his best. God did not accept Cain’s offering but He did accept Abel’s. This made Cain angry and depressed. God warns him to dominate the one who is encouraging these emotions. He did not and killed Abel. When negative emotions come are we taking authority over them? Are we doing and bringing our best to God? Now let’s take a look at “the error of Balaam”.
2 Peter 2:14-16 (ESV)
14 They have eyes full of adultery, insatiable for sin. They entice unsteady souls. They have hearts trained in greed. Accursed children!
15 Forsaking the right way, they have gone astray. They have followed the way of Balaam, the son of Beor, who loved gain from wrongdoing,
16 but was rebuked for his own transgression; a speechless donkey spoke with human voice and restrained the prophet’s madness.
The problem with Balaam was that he played with sin rather than outright obeying the Lord from the first of appearance of Balak. In the end he does the right thing but did not immediately obey the direction, command, of the Lord. This brings us to “the gainsaying of Core”. Let’s look at it in the ESV translation.
Jude 1:11 (ESV)
11 Woe to them! For they walked in the way of Cain and abandoned themselves for the sake of gain to Balaam’s error and perished in Korah’s rebellion.
We see in the following passage that Korah with 250 other leaders rose up in rebellion against Moses and Aaron.
Numbers 16:1-3 (ESV)
1 Now Korah the son of Izhar, son of Kohath, son of Levi, and Dathan and Abiram the sons of Eliab, and On the son of Peleth, sons of Reuben, took men.
2 And they rose up before Moses, with a number of the people of Israel, 250 chiefs of the congregation, chosen from the assembly, well-known men.
3 They assembled themselves together against Moses and against Aaron and said to them, “You have gone too far! For all in the congregation are holy, every one of them, and the LORD is among them. Why then do you exalt yourselves above the assembly of the LORD?”
It was not wise then and it is not wise now to rise up against Gods’ chosen Anointed vessels.
Numbers 16:28-33 (ESV)
28 And Moses said, “Hereby you shall know that the LORD has sent me to do all these works, and that it has not been of my own accord.
29 If these men die as all men die, or if they are visited by the fate of all mankind, then the LORD has not sent me.
30 But if the LORD creates something new, and the ground opens its mouth and swallows them up with all that belongs to them, and they go down alive into Sheol, then you shall know that these men have despised the LORD.”
31 And as soon as he had finished speaking all these words, the ground under them split apart.
32 And the earth opened its mouth and swallowed them up, with their households and all the people who belonged to Korah and all their goods.
33 So they and all that belonged to them went down alive into Sheol, and the earth closed over them, and they perished from the midst of the assembly.
Lord willing, I will pick up right here next week. The Lord is good and He cannot lie!
