CONTINUALLY GUIDE YOU

Greetings dear and precious saints of God and welcome back to our Bible Study of this amazing Book of Isaiah. God is so good to give this ancient people and us a light for our path. The featured picture is of an old Church in the State of Arkansas. This is to remind us to pray for our local Church, the Church in our State, and the Church (body of Christ) in our nation. Much of the body of Christ is outside your denomination or lack of denomination. Now, let’s turn our attention to our primary Bible text in the Book of Isaiah.
Isaiah 58:10-12 (NASB)
10 And if you give yourself to the hungry And satisfy the desire of the afflicted, Then your light will rise in darkness And your gloom will become like midday.
11 “And the LORD will continually guide you, And satisfy your desire in scorched places, And give strength to your bones; And you will be like a watered garden, And like a spring of water whose waters do not fail.
12 “Those from among you will rebuild the ancient ruins; You will raise up the age-old foundations; And you will be called the repairer of the breach, The restorer of the streets in which to dwell.
You will recall that God has been dealing with His people about fasting. The Lord points out to them that what they are calling fasting is all a big show, their hearts are not in it. All the while they are involved in “contention and strife” and are driving their workers hard. This word contention is more commonly translated as dispute. In modern day English there really is no big difference between a dispute and strife. Scripture is clear throughout to avoid strife.
Genesis 13:7-9 (KJV)
7 And there was a strife between the herdmen of Abram’s cattle and the herdmen of Lot’s cattle: and the Canaanite and the Perizzite dwelled then in the land.
8 And Abram said unto Lot, Let there be no strife, I pray thee, between me and thee, and between my herdmen and thy herdmen; for we be brethren.
9 Is not the whole land before thee? separate thyself, I pray thee, from me: if thou wilt take the left hand, then I will go to the right; or if thou depart to the right hand, then I will go to the left.
This account of strife between Lot’s herdsmen and Abram’s is the first use of the word strife. The lesson here was that they separated. When the strife seems to have no immediate solution, we must not allow the strife to continue and separate. The Apostle James along with many references by the Apostle Paul tells us why.
James 3:16 (KJV)
16 For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work.
Back to the fasting thing. Isn’t it interesting that when the Lord told them what kind of a fast, He has chosen it has nothing to do with going without food. It has everything to do with loving others. These things the Lord talks about in verses 5-7 will require one to be away from their own pursuits and comforts for periods of time. The reward is great though as Jesus pointed out.
Mark 10:29-30 (KJV)
29 And Jesus answered and said, Verily I say unto you, There is no man that hath left house, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my sake, and the gospel’s,
30 But he shall receive an hundredfold now in this time, houses, and brethren, and sisters, and mothers, and children, and lands, with persecutions; and in the world to come eternal life.
Isaiah puts it this way.
Isaiah 58:10-11 (NASB)
10 And if you give yourself to the hungry And satisfy the desire of the afflicted, Then your light will rise in darkness And your gloom will become like midday.
11 “And the LORD will continually guide you, And satisfy your desire in scorched places, And give strength to your bones; And you will be like a watered garden, And like a spring of water whose waters do not fail.
Lord willing, I will pick up right here tomorrow. Remember, we love you, the Lord loves you, and there is nothing you can do about either one.
