TURN YOUR FOOT

Greetings dear and precious saints of God and welcome back to our Bible Study of this amazing Book of Isaiah. God is so good to give this ancient people and us a light for our path. The featured picture is of a beautiful old Church in the State of Connecticut. This is to remind us to pray for our local Church, the Church in our State, and the Church (body of Christ) in our nation. Much of the body of Christ is outside your denomination or lack of denomination. Now, let’s turn our attention to our primary Bible text in the Book of Isaiah.
Isaiah 58:13-14 (NASB)
13 “If because of the sabbath, you turn your foot From doing your own pleasure on My holy day, And call the sabbath a delight, the holy day of the LORD honorable, And honor it, desisting from your own ways, From seeking your own pleasure And speaking your own word,
14 Then you will take delight in the LORD, And I will make you ride on the heights of the earth; And I will feed you with the heritage of Jacob your father, For the mouth of the LORD has spoken.”
Today I will be picking up with the last two verses of this 58th chapter of Isaiah. Basically, the Lord has been telling them to quit going their own way which is a way of perishing. Turn to me, make me number One and things will be way different, literally like midnight turned to noon day. The Lord told them over and over in many ways the same things, pointing out they are on a path of destruction and He is doing the same today. We are not so different from this ancient people. Perhaps the following two verses capsulize His message.
Matthew 6:33 (NASB)
33 “But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.
John 10:10 (NASB)
10 “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly.
One might make the argument that they and we have thick skulls. What is the downside of salvation? If one obeys not turning to other words there is no downside! Don’t listen to the false voices speaking of poverty and suffering harm. There is no evil in the Lord, neither does He bring evil, or test/tempt with evil. The evil of poverty and sickness/disease are of our own making, part of the curse, allowed even invited by sin.
As we move forward into verses 13 and 14, please notice something interesting. The preceding verses have to do with our assignment in the Kingdom of God. These verses like others are talking about the benefits of obedience. Is there anything you don’t like about verse fourteen? Fourteen is the number of deliverance or salvation whereas thirteen is the number of rebellion and depravity. When we walk in obedience with God number One then the benefits of the Kingdom flow and not just a little. I must say that we are seriously desecrating the Sabbath. Let’s each of us study and meditate on verse thirteen and apply it to our own lives and how we treat the Sabbath. It seems to me that the 13th verse is talking about Sunday but there is a much larger picture. We were created to live in the Sabbath Day which is not a single day but a way of living in Gods’ provision. Man was made right at the end of the sixth day to live in the seventh day. And they did for a season but sin threw them back into the sixth day where they were their own provider living by their own toil and sweat. We are designed and made to live like God dear ones. When will we grasp this and move to our place in Him, in the Kingdom?
Lord willing, I will pick up right here next week. Remember, we love you, the Lord loves you, and there is nothing you can do about either one.

On a personal note, sixty years ago today I married my late wife Patricia Ann Snow Wood or Patti as she was known by family and friends. This precious lady is now in Heaven rejoicing with the saints and I rejoice with her.
