1 JOHN – 3:6
SIN IS OUR CHOICE

Greetings precious saints of God, my brothers and sisters in Christ, and welcome back to this edifying (enlightening) and exhorting (encouraging) study of the Book of 1st John. The Lord is so good to give a Book of His thoughts and Words (Gods’ Policy and Procedure Manual) which teach us the way of salvation. Not just how to be saved but partake in the fullness of salvation. Salvation is way more than eternal life and life as God knows life, but life as God knows life right here in the earth. That’s Bible dear ones! Now, let’s turn our attention to our primary Bible text continuing to read out loud, listening to understand and do, you know why, this is very important, life and death.
1 John 3:5-8 (KJV)
5 And ye know that he was manifested to take away our sins; and in him is no sin.
6 Whosoever abideth in him sinneth not: whosoever sinneth hath not seen him, neither known him.
7 Little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous.
8 He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.
Last Friday we dealt with the fifth verse of our primary Bible text and how Jesus came to take away our sins and there was no sin in Him in spite of Him being here in human form. Likewise, we are able to be without sin, He has equipped us with the Word and with the Holy Spirit. If you look just a few verses ahead you will see that Jesus came to destroy “the works of the devil”. He came to destroy, give us dominion over sin, over the curse. Consider the following passage focusing on verse sixteen.
Romans 6:13-16 (KJV)
13 Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.
14 For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.
15 What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid.
16 Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?
The word “sinneth” in our primary Bible text is in the present tense indicating one presently sinning (transgressing Gods’ Word) as a lifestyle. As we read down through the Romans passage, who is in charge, making the decisions to sin? We chose unrighteousness, we chose to do this or that contrary to the Word of God. Sin does not have dominion over the child of God but to be clear we have always had the ability to choose, now we have help. That help is knowledge of the Word of God and the Holy Spirit. Before we had some knowledge and a conscience. If we love (agapē/agapaō) God we will not sin. As I close for today meditate this, hopefully, familiar Scripture.
James 1:13-17 (KJV)
13 Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man:
14 But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.
15 Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.
16 Do not err, my beloved brethren.
17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.
Lord willing, I will pick up right here next Friday. Remember, we love you, the Lord loves you, and there is nothing you can do about either one.
