Greetings in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and welcome back to our study of this phenomenal Bible Book of Isaiah. Of course, all of Scripture is phenomenal for its Words are Anointed and have Life. When planted in good soil these Words will bring forth 30, 60, and 100-fold in our lives. The featured picture is an artist’s rendition of Jerusalem of old. Now, let’s delve (investigate, research, probe, dig) into our primary Bible text from this Book of Isaiah continuing to read out loud.
Isaiah 62:1-5 (NKJV)
1 For Zion’s sake I will not hold My peace, And for Jerusalem’s sake I will not rest, Until her righteousness goes forth as brightness, And her salvation as a lamp that burns.
2 The Gentiles shall see your righteousness, And all kings your glory. You shall be called by a new name, Which the mouth of the LORD will name.
3 You shall also be a crown of glory In the hand of the LORD, And a royal diadem In the hand of your God.
4 You shall no longer be termed Forsaken, Nor shall your land any more be termed Desolate; But you shall be called Hephzibah, and your land Beulah; For the LORD delights in you, And your land shall be married.
5 For as a young man marries a virgin, So shall your sons marry you; And as the bridegroom rejoices over the bride, So shall your God rejoice over you.
As we examine this text, we see references to Zion and Jerusalem. Some might argue that God through His Prophet Isaiah is referring to the same thing using different names. I would not go to war in that regard, but it seems to me He is referring to the Church (Zion) and Jerusalem (Jews). I am sure you have quickly recognized this as a Messianic passage. Did you notice all the light, more properly Light, in this first verse? The righteousness going forth as brightness and salvation as a burning lamp. The term “I will not hold my peace” is not talking about peace but is properly interpreted as keeping silent. The NIV gives a more accurate rendition.
Isaiah 62:1 (NIV)
1 For Zion’s sake I will not keep silent, for Jerusalem’s sake I will not remain quiet, till her righteousness shines out like the dawn, her salvation like a blazing torch.
Don’t forget who is really talking, it is the Lord through His Prophet Isaiah. The Lord is saying and we say, I’m going to keep talking about the Church and I’m going to keep talking about the Jews (God’s first Covenant people). Jesus (the new name spoken of in the next verse) is our righteousness.
1 Corinthians 1:30 (NKJV)
30 But of Him you are in Christ Jesus, who became for us wisdom from God–and righteousness and sanctification and redemption—
Except for Christ Jesus we can’t have real wisdom, righteousness in the sight of God, sanctification, or redemption. Remember before Jesus ascended back to Heaven, He said He was the light of the world but upon His ascension we became a multitude of lights to the world like the stars of the sky.
John 9:5 (KJV)
5 As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.
Matthew 5:14 (KJV)
14 Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.
God’s people being the light of the world was prophesied in the fourth day of creation.
Genesis 1:16-18 (NKJV)
16 Then God made two great lights: the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night. He made the stars also.
17 God set them in the firmament of the heavens to give light on the earth,
18 and to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness. And God saw that it was good.
We are the stars!
