DENOMINATIONS – PART TWO

Greetings precious saints of God and welcome to The Three Minute Word blog as I continue teaching about divisions within the body of Christ, we call them Denominations. Let’s ask ourselves, is this splintering of the body of Christ, of Christians of God, or the Devil, or perhaps a work of man’s flesh? Last Sunday I left off talking about the Church at Corinth in the first century and was impressed with the following two verses.

1 Corinthians 1:12-13 (KJV)

12 Now this I say, that every one of you saith, I am of Paul; and I of Apollos; and I of Cephas; and I of Christ.

13 Is Christ divided? was Paul crucified for you? or were ye baptized in the name of Paul?

Let me repeat the Apostle Paul’s question, “Is Christ divided?” Now, let’s look at the Church at Galatia.

Galatians 3:1-3 (KJV)

1 O foolish Galatians, who hath bewitched you, that ye should not obey the truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ hath been evidently set forth, crucified among you?

2 This only would I learn of you, Received ye the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?

3 Are ye so foolish? having begun in the Spirit, are ye now made perfect by the flesh?

These were turning away from the Truth and returning to Judaism, the traditions of men and doctrines of demons. Yet there is another example in Colossae where they had turned to worshipping angels (verse eighteen).

Colossians 2:16-19 (NIV)

16 Therefore do not let anyone judge you by what you eat or drink, or with regard to a religious festival, a New Moon celebration or a Sabbath day.

17 These are a shadow of the things that were to come; the reality, however, is found in Christ.

18 Do not let anyone who delights in false humility and the worship of angels disqualify you for the prize. Such a person goes into great detail about what he has seen, and his unspiritual mind puffs him up with idle notions.

19 He has lost connection with the Head, from whom the whole body, supported and held together by its ligaments and sinews, grows as God causes it to grow.

One point that I am making is that in every division there is a turning from the Truth to doctrines of demons and traditions of men. Now, looking back at our Colossians text meditate most intently on verse nineteen. When we turn from the Truth to other words, we have lost connection with the Head (Christ Jesus). This is most sobering and should cause all of us to examine ourselves and seek the Lord to uncover, to show us any and all deceptions in our lives. How long can one be disconnected from the Head and still be saved, still make Heaven? Are we good Bereans?

Lord willing, I will pick up right here next Sunday with more teaching concerning Denominations. Remember, we love you, the Lord loves you, and there is nothing you can do about either one.
