Greeting dear and precious saints of God, little children as the Apostle John refers to us, and welcome back to these enlightening and empowering teachings of 1st John. The Lord is so good little ones. Are we seeing and listening to these Scriptures to understand, guard in our hearts, and do or is it more of a religious exercise for the day? The Words of God which we make our own take us one direction, a very good direction, but the words of the world perverted by the original pervert take us in an altogether different direction. Now, let’s turn our attention to our primary Bible text for today continuing to read out loud.
1 John 3:6-10 (KJV)
6 Whosoever abideth in him sinneth not: whosoever sinneth hath not seen him, neither known him.
7 Little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous.
8 He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.
9 Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.
10 In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother.
Last Friday we left off talking about verse six and the Truth that if one truly abides, continues, in the Lord Jesus they will not sin as a habit or way of life. Those in whom we do not see a change, which in some cases is dramatic, this Scripture tells us they have not seen Him and do not know Him. One might say, that is between them and God. That is true enough for we do not know how much light (revealed Truth) another has allowed. On the other hand, Jesus said, you shall know them by their fruit.
Luke 6:43-46 (KJV)
43 For a good tree bringeth not forth corrupt fruit; neither doth a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.
44 For every tree is known by his own fruit. For of thorns men do not gather figs, nor of a bramble bush gather they grapes.
45 A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.
46 And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?
Now, let’s focus for a bit on the seventh verse. I don’t know that to be addressed as “little children” is a term of endearment but seems to be referring to a lack of maturity. Our level of maturity in the Kingdom of God is solely in our hand, although time is involved, it is not time dependent. Perhaps you are aware of people who are in the same place today faith and love wise they were ten, twenty, or more years ago. Sadly, many are stagnant in the Kingdom of God. Kingdom maturity will show in our finances and in our health to mention the two most important to the Lord. The Apostle John points out that those we do right according to the Word of God and do justly according to the Word of God are righteous as He is righteous. Righteousness is a way of life. We are made righteous (right thing to do) at salvation but all disobedience is unrighteousness. A mixture can exist in the Christian. Let me remind you of the following verse written to Christians, to us, as is the whole book.
1 John 1:9 (KJV)
9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
Lord willing, I will pick up right here next Friday. Remember, we love you, the Lord loves you, and there is nothing you can do about either one.
