SING
MEMORIAL DAY
Greetings dear saints of God and others, and welcome back to our study of this wonderful Book of Isaiah. Please take a moment and share this teaching as widely as possible by every means available to you. Your sharing shows us that you value the teachings.
Today is Memorial Day originally called Decoration Day. Memorial Day was originally proclaimed by General John A. Logan on 5 May 1868. As you can see the first Memorial or Decoration Day took place right after the Civil War. This day is a commemoration, a remembrance of those who paid the ultimate price for our freedoms. The American Civil War cost 625,000 lives from the north and south, Americas’ most costly war. The cost of freedom (Revolutionary War) was 25,000 precious lives in comparison. The price of maintaining freedom is high. Let us remember those who died in service to our country that we as a nation can shine as a beacon of hope to the whole world. Since the inception of this Commemorative Day, it has morphed (transformed) into a day when we remember all of our dead.
Now, let’s turn our attention to our primary Bible text continuing to read out loud.
Isaiah 54:1-3 (KJV)
1 Sing, O barren, thou that didst not bear; break forth into singing, and cry aloud, thou that didst not travail with child: for more are the children of the desolate than the children of the married wife, saith the LORD.
2 Enlarge the place of thy tent, and let them stretch forth the curtains of thine habitations: spare not, lengthen thy cords, and strengthen thy stakes;
3 For thou shalt break forth on the right hand and on the left; and thy seed shall inherit the Gentiles, and make the desolate cities to be inhabited.
I hope you recall that we dealt with these first three verses to some extent last week and I will continue today from a bit of a different angle. The first two verses offer some hope to the barren woman, the woman with no natural children for whatever reason. This Scripture encourages her to prepare for a large number of children be they adopted natural children or spiritual children. Notice that verse two is in preparation for these children, a step of faith, not a response to the children. The Lord will often require the same of us, steps of faith before manifestation. Manifestation of what? The promise.
As I was meditating on verse three of our text and was examining various translations and the means of a variety of words, I concluded the KJV gave us the clearest view. You will recall that Abram’s wife Sarai was barren. They were given a promise.
Genesis 12:1-3 (KJV)
1 Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father’s house, unto a land that I will shew thee:
2 And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing:
3 And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.
They were told that all the families of the earth would be blessed through them while she was yet barren. Then came a reminder.
Genesis 15:5-6 (KJV)
5 And he brought him forth abroad, and said, Look now toward heaven, and tell the stars, if thou be able to number them: and he said unto him, So shall thy seed be.
6 And he believed in the LORD; and he counted it to him for righteousness.
Not only were the Jewish peoples birthed by Abrahams’ faith but the Seed (Jesus) did come and the Church was birthed.
Ephesians 3:5-6 (KJV)
5 Which in other ages was not made known unto the sons of men, as it is now revealed unto his holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit;
6 That the Gentiles should be fellow-heirs, and of the same body, and partakers of his promise in Christ by the gospel:
We are indeed the seed of Abraham.
Galatians 3:29 (KJV)
29 And if ye be Christ’s, then are ye Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.
Lord willing, I will pick up right here tomorrow. Remember the Lord is good, nothing but good, and He cannot lie.

2 Chronicles 20:20 b (KJV)
20 … Believe in the LORD your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper.
Ecclesiastes 12:13-14 (KJV)
13 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.
14 For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.
