WE WILL GIVE ACCOUNT FOR AMERICA

Greetings precious brothers and sisters in the Kingdom of God and welcome back to The Three Minute Word blog. Today I will be talking about our obligations as citizens of America specifically but this teaching will apply generally to persons who are citizens of other countries. Todays picture is an amazing view of Liberty Island and the Statue of Liberty. Next week I will be starting a new Sunday series titled “Gifts”. I think we will all be amazed at the number of gifts we have been given from God. Last week I talked about our obligations under God to the nation of Israel and today our own nation, America. Israel is a Covenant nation and America is a Covenant nation. These are the only two Covenant nations on the earth. These nations were conceived and born in Covenant with God, recognizing the need for God in order to survive and prosper. America has prospered far and away above any nation ever. As part of demonstrating this Covenant relationship that we have with God as a nation look at the following extraction from the Mayflower Compact, November 11, 1620. This is the pilgrims at Plymouth Rock. “Having undertaken for the glory of God and advancement of the Christian Faith…[we] combine ourselves together into a civil body politic for…furtherance of the ends aforesaid.” That colony (a seed) and eventually this nation (the harvest) formed to manifest the goodness of God and to advance the Christian faith which is our faith. This nation is also an umbrella (protector) for Israel raised up as the Jews were being persecuted elsewhere. As you know the Declaration of Independence is considered a part of the Constitution and clearly recognizes God in the founding of this nation. Rejoice over the following excerpt.
“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. That to secure these rights, governments are instituted among men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed.”
The Constitutions of the individual States with the exception of Oregon recognize and declare their dependence upon God. Here is Maine and Texas which is where many of my readers reside.
MAINE PREAMBLE
Objects of government. We the people of Maine, in order to establish justice, insure tranquility, provide for our mutual defense, promote our common welfare, and secure to ourselves and our posterity the blessings of liberty, acknowledging with grateful hearts the goodness of the Sovereign Ruler of the Universe in affording us an opportunity, so favorable to the design; and, imploring God’s aid and direction in its accomplishment, do agree to form ourselves into a free and independent State, by the style and title of the State of Maine and do ordain and establish the following Constitution for the government of the same.
TEXAS
PREAMBLE Humbly invoking the blessings of Almighty God, the people of the State of Texas, do ordain and establish this Constitution.
The design of our government is right out of Scripture.
Isaiah 33:22 (KJV)
22 For the LORD is our judge, the LORD is our lawgiver, the LORD is our king; he will save us.
Did you notice the three branches of our government? The Judicial (judge), the Legislative (lawgiver), and the Executive (king) are all mentioned here. There is much that can be said about our relationship to government and our responsibility for the government. Listen to a past President and preacher of the gospel.
President James A. Garfield
When giving his centennial address to Congress in 1876, President James Garfield issued the following warning: “Now, more than ever before, the people are responsible for the character of their Congress. If that body be ignorant, reckless, and corrupt, it is because the people tolerate ignorance, recklessness, and corruption. If it be intelligent, brave, and pure, it is because the people demand these high qualities to represent them in the national legislature…If the next centennial does not find us a great nation…it will be because those who represent the enterprise, the culture, and the morality of the nation do not aid in controlling the political forces.”
This should bring conviction to us all. We will all answer to God as to what we did with our nation. Did we vote, was it for righteousness or unrighteousness, did we vote by emotion or the Word of God, and did we pray for all in office? Now, I will close this teaching with what I hope is a very familiar Scripture.
1 Timothy 2:1-3 (KJV)
1 I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men;
2 For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.
3 For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour;
All of the good things of God happen only by the exercise of faith in love with the appropriate action following. With regard to our government, praying is insufficient, we must vote. In order to have people in authority who allow the Church to lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty the leaders also must be godly and honest. In our country leaders come to office by the vote.

Numbers 6:24-26 (AMP)
24 The Lord bless you and watch, guard, and keep you;
25 The Lord make His face to shine upon and enlighten you and be gracious (kind, merciful, and giving favor) to you;
26 The Lord lift up His [approving] countenance upon you and give you peace (tranquility of heart and life continually).
