Greetings precious saints of God and welcome back to this wonderful Bible Study of the Book of 1st John. Written by the Apostle of love as moved upon by the Holy Spirit. It is said in Church history that of the original Apostles, John is the only one to die a natural peaceful death. One might want to ask why. Please take a moment and share this and all of our teachings as widely as possible to expand our reach with the Truth. If you embrace the mission of this Ministry and are benefiting from the teachings yourself, why in the world would you not share? Also, don’t forget about my books including the latest one.

Now, let’s turn our attention to our primary Bible text.
1 John 2:3-8 (KJV)
3 And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments.
4 He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.
5 But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him.
6 He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked.
7 Brethren, I write no new commandment unto you, but an old commandment which ye had from the beginning. The old commandment is the word which ye have heard from the beginning.
8 Again, a new commandment I write unto you, which thing is true in him and in you: because the darkness is past, and the true light now shineth.
Verse three right out of the gate should cause us all to take stock of ourselves. Do we know Him or do we just think we know Him? If we are knowingly not keeping His commandments (pleural) John tells us quite plainly we don’t know Jesus. Let’s look at this verse and a few more in the New Living Translation.
1 John 2:3 (NLT)
3 And we can be sure that we know him if we obey his commandments.
4 If someone claims, “I know God,” but doesn’t obey God’s commandments, that person is a liar and is not living in the truth. 5 But those who obey God’s word truly show how completely they love him. That is how we know we are living in him.
6 Those who say they live in God should live their lives as Jesus did.
Let us be sure we know Him and don’t just know about Him. Let’s hear Jesus on this from two different gospel writers.
Luke 6:45-48 (KJV)
45 A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.
46 And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?
47 Whosoever cometh to me, and heareth my sayings, and doeth them, I will shew you to whom he is like:
48 He is like a man which built an house, and digged deep, and laid the foundation on a rock: and when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that house, and could not shake it: for it was founded upon a rock.
Matthew 7:21-24 (KJV)
21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.
22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
24 Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:
Sobering, don’t you think. How serious must we be about walking with this One, Jesus, we call Lord and Savior?
Lord willing, I will pick up right here next Friday.
By: Dr. David R. Wood, Bible Teacher, and Prophetic Voice
2 Chronicles 20:20 b (KJV)
20 … Believe in the LORD your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper.
Ecclesiastes 12:13-14 (KJV)
13 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.
14 For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.
