Friday – February 2, 2024, Sh’vat 23, 5784
Greetings dear and precious saints of the only Living God, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, not the god of Ishmael. As I write this on the 10th of October 2023 war rages in Israel and the Garza Strip. I suspect when we get to the publication date of this teaching it will be a different world. The attack of Hamas on Israel included atrocities not seen in a while on this scale brings anger and tears to one at the same time. One news reports this morning, in one Israeli village, 40 babies massacred with their heads cut off. The origin of the Arabs and thus Islam is from Ishmael the son of unholy union of Abram and Hagar Sarai’s handmaiden. This is what God said about him.
Genesis 16:12 (AMP)
12 And he [Ishmael] will be as a wild ass among men; his hand will be against every man and every man’s hand against him, and he will live to the east and on the borders of all his kinsmen.
I hope you are praying today and the day you read this with a whole heart for God’s mercy upon Israel.

Now, let’s shift gears to our primary study of 1st John continuing to read out loud. Yes, out loud, you know why.
1 John 2:5-8 (KJV)
5 But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him.
6 He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked.
7 Brethren, I write no new commandment unto you, but an old commandment which ye had from the beginning. The old commandment is the word which ye have heard from the beginning.
8 Again, a new commandment I write unto you, which thing is true in him and in you: because the darkness is past, and the true light now shineth.
Let us be sure we are reading very carefully and giving more than a passing thought to what we have just read. You might want to consider rereading the first four verses of this chapter and ask ourselves if they are true in our lives.
1 John 2:1-4 (KJV)
1 My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:
2 And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.
3 And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments.
4 He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.
Now, let’s not be too quick to throw our religious pride into gear. Am I, are you, keeping His commandments? Remember that keeping His commandments is the heart of love (agapē/agapaō) not the touchy-feely emotional substitute of the world and all too much on display in the Church. Remember the Word of God will help each of us to discern our true thoughts and motivations.
Hebrews 4:12 (KJV)
12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
Lord willing, I will pick up right here next Friday. Remember the Lord loves you and He is nothing but good, He’s not passing out cancer, heart attacks, and poverty.
