Greetings and welcome back to this study of the Kingdom of God and His righteousness. As you are reading this expect the Lord to speak to you concerning any and all needs in your life including finances, healing, and revelation (light) of Scripture in Jesus name. Let’s go to the anchor Scripture.
Matthew 6:33 (KJV)
33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
This is a command. Seeking after the Kingdom of God which is to be joined with the King of kings in the purposes of the Kingdom doing it the Kingdom way. Everything in the Kingdom is a win win proposition for the obedient son of God. In this Scripture when our hearts, our motives, are in the right place doing it His way the things of this life will flow to us. That is not to say we don’t have a role in the gathering, we certainly will most of the time, but it will not be hard. Now, let’s move to our next study Scripture.
Luke 9:59-62 (KJV)
59 And he said unto another, Follow me. But he said, Lord, suffer me first to go and bury my father.
60 Jesus said unto him, Let the dead bury their dead: but go thou and preach the kingdom of God.
61 And another also said, Lord, I will follow thee; but let me first go bid them farewell, which are at home at my house.
62 And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.
The central theme or idea here is that when you chose to follow Christ you start then not later. We may see these excuses for delay as reasonable given our cultural prospective. Looking at verse fifty-nine the word “bury” means to celebrate funeral rites, to bury according to Strong’s Talking Greek & Hebrew Dictionary. In that culture at that time and even today in the Jewish culture this is a month-long process. We may have been thinking of a hour service, a brief service at the gravesite and done. The other example given has to do with biding the family farewell. Here again, at that time this was not a simple I’m on the road with Jesus, then a hug around the neck and a kiss. This would have been a weeklong festival.
Beyond these natural examples is the idea that our following Jesus starts without delay upon salvation. Jesus continues in verse sixty-two.
Luke 9:62 (KJV)
62 And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.
The idea here is one of looking back with longing and thoughts of going back. In another place Jesus reminds us to remember Lot’s wife. She looked back and was destroyed along with all the inhabitants of Sodom and Gomorrah. She never attained salvation. Jesus may not have gone that far with the meanings of the word “fit” including useful, worthy, and pleasing. This is one of those verses that one should not just skate over with little thought but give it much meditation. Let’s determine we will not skate on thin ice. Our God is a jealous God and will have no other gods before Him.
TAKE HOME:
- Everything in the Kingdom is a win win proposition for the obedient son of God. When our hearts, our motives, are in the right place doing it His way the things of this life will flow to us.
- Our service as sons in the Kingdom of God starts immediately upon salvation.
- Looking back longing to go back makes us useless to the Kingdom and puts us in grave danger. Our God is a jealous God and will have no other gods before Him.
Lord willing, I will resume right here next Saturday. Remember, we love you, the Lord loves you, and there is nothing you can do about either one.
