Greetings to all in the Kingdom of God and those who are entering. The Lord is so good. We are picking up once again today with our study of the Kingdom of God and His righteousness. This was a major theme of Jesus’ earthly Ministry and thus we must follow suite. We are commanded to do as Jesus did and even greater things for, He is gone on to Heaven (John 14:12). Jesus taught and demonstrated the laws of the Kingdom of God and the Fathers’ ways, and we are to do likewise. Now, let’s go to our text Scripture and dive into today’s teaching.
Matthew 6:32-33 (AMP)
32 For the Gentiles (heathen) wish for and crave and diligently seek all these things, and your heavenly Father knows well that you need them all.
33 But seek (aim at and strive after) first of all His kingdom and His righteousness (His way of doing and being right), and then all these things taken together will be given you besides.
I have asked over and over, do we see this as a command that we are pursuing with all of our being? It seems that all too many times we look at a Scripture and perhaps say something like oh that is so good but then we walk away soon forgetting what we just saw. Then perhaps we wonder why we are in the same place spiritually and materially year after year. Let’s move to our next teaching from the mouth of the Master, our Master.
Mark 1:14-15 (KJV)
14 Now after that John was put in prison, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God,
15 And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.
Why do you suppose the text tells that this is after “John was put in prison”? Scripture wastes nothing and does not have filler. John the Baptist was the herald (the one who came before announcing the arrival of the Christ) if you will of Jesus’ Ministry.
Mark 1:1-3 (KJV)
1 The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God;
2 As it is written in the prophets, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, which shall prepare thy way before thee.
3 The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.
John the Baptists ministry had to end before Jesus’ could start like the ministry of Elijah ended before Elisha’s Ministry could start. In our Mark 1:14-15 text we see Jesus’ teaching the good news (gospel) of the Kingdom of God and repentance. The Kingdom of God, the one we entered at salvation, is a place of the Kings domain or authority. He didn’t say the news was a mixed bag. He said it was nothing but good news. Every kingdom has laws including the Kingdom of God. Yes, we have things that are permissible and things which are not. Walking in, doing these laws is righteousness and not doing these laws is unrighteousness which is sin. He pointed out that repentance was needed. Why was repentance needed? To turn from religious law (traditions of men and doctrines of demons) and the ways of the world (Satan) and walk in the ways of God.
The only law that is passed away since Calvary is the law of sin and death. Unlike Adam who died spiritually immediately with sin, Jesus paid the price to remove that law. When we sin, we have a time of grace to repent. Now, there are natural and spiritual consequences of sin, but it is not spiritual death without remedy. With the exception of the sacrificial laws found in the Bible Books before the Cross all is in force. There is no longer a need to sacrifice innocent animals destroying their bodies and spilling their blood for Jesus gave His body and His Blood providing eternal life by the remission of sins.
There are laws which tell us how to relate to God and to each other. There are also spiritual laws which provide consistency of actions and reactions. One spiritual law is sowing and reaping. These are like natural laws. For example, if you jump out a window gravity dictates that you go to the ground 100% of the time. Scripture tells us that the risen Savior upholds all of these laws spiritual and natural (Hebrews 1:3).
TAKE HOME:
- The Kingdom of God is nothing but good news. If you are walking in the curse, bad news, it is not of God, light is needed then repentance and a walking in the way of Heaven.
- To enter the Kingdom of God, repentance is necessary, and we must believe the gospel. Unbelief keeps us either out of the Kingdom of God entirely or out of the many good things provided by citizenship in the Kingdom.
- We know from our primary text Scripture (Matthew 6:33) that we are to be about the business of the Kingdom of God as our primary aim and we are to do it His way which is righteousness.
Lord willing, I will resume right here next Saturday. Remember, we love you, the Lord loves you, and there is nothing you can do about either one.
