Welcome to teaching six of our new Bible Study series extracted from my book “Awake, Arise, and Triumph – Book II – God’s Road to Redemption”. We will be studying chapter six which is titled “Blood Line – Trail of Blood”. I am hoping to have a digitalized downloadable version of the book available soon (e-book). For those who like to read on their computers or other devices it will be inexpensive access to a rather lengthy book (464 pages). Now, to our study of the Blood.
I now want to talk a little about blood covenant and what that means, and the power of that kind of covenant. I have taken much of the following material from a wonderful little book by E. W. Kenyon called The Blood Covenant. [5] Today I will review three basic or traditional reasons (there are more) that persons cut the covenant (spill blood). The first reason is: when a weaker person or group of people wants to join with a stronger person or group of people. Generally, the weaker wants the protection of the stronger; but in reality, they are both stronger as a result. This is common among tribes in Africa even to this day. We see it in modern society, when covenants (contracts) are made between persons or businesses. Between nations, we call them treaties; but it is a covenant. We do not cut ourselves and mix the blood, but many times the treaty or covenant may result in blood being spilled. For example, one nation has a defense treaty with another. If one of those nations is attacked, then the other is obligated by covenant to come to the defense of the nation being attacked, and blood may be spilled.
Secondly, there is an assurance of equality by the covenant. For example, America and England may covenant for mutual defense purposes, making them equal in obligation. America will move to defend England with all it has at her disposal, and so will England move with all she has at her disposal to defend America. This is the way marriage is to work. Did you hear me? Equality is brought into marriage by the blood covenant.
The third reason for blood covenant is to create an irrevocable bond between friends and in marriage. For example, David and Jonathan (1 Samuel 18:3) cut the covenant due to their friendship. Men can love each other free of sexual aspects. Today, men are inhibited to tell another that he loves him for fear of what those overhearing may say or think. This is brotherly love not erotic love. Of course, for the Christian, it would be the God kind of love (agape). Agape love has nothing to do with emotions, but brotherly love may have an emotional component. Certainly, erotic love has a very strong emotional, sensual component, which may be devoid of agape; but that should not be.
All three components apply to the Church. We are the weaker party, and have entered blood covenant with the Father, through the blood of Jesus. We have been brought into equality, for the Scripture tells us that we are joint heirs with Christ and sons of God. This covenant is based on love. God is love, and at salvation, we are love; and have the God given ability to walk in agape love. This Covenant is eternal. God will not forsake this Blood Covenant, this love, what about you? If we fully forsake this Covenant we are lost without remedy.
TAKE HOME:
- As the weaker party I have gladly and joyfully joined myself in Blood Covenant with the Father through the shed Blood of Christ.
- By this Blood Covenant I have been ushered into the Kingdom of God, into the family of God, I am a son, all that the Kingdom is and has, I am and have.
- This bond, this Blood Covenant, cannot be broken with the Father except by my death (spiritual).
